Always wondered why Apple didn't make this a temporary banner...

It's especially annoying on Apple Carplay when I can't see my GPS anymore... I guess that won't change.

Right, Apple couldn't do this in other phones by just using the timed pop-up notification as is used for silent mode, connected AirPods, and so on. No, in those phones, the technology only allows for a front and center pop-up that disrupts and stops videos AND require user action to dismiss. No option to disable this in settings either, because honestly, that's too advanced technolgy. Sadly only the Dynamic Island™ can fix that nagging issue iOS always had.

Thank god the dynamic island didn't come out in the year Apple fixed the volume pop-uo...

I wonder if the issue is more with "dynamic" or "island"? What else could they have called it?

This should’ve been made into a top-of-the-screen notification years ago. It never should’ve interrupted everything in the middle of the display, forcing you to dismiss before doing anything else. Better late than never.

I still don't like the idea of the battery icon showing full, until it suddenly doesn't, at 20 percent. Even with the percentage display. Hopefully this is something that gets fixed eventually.
I think it’s a purposeful design decision and probably won’t get “fixed”. It’s likely that the text would be harder to read for a large enough number of people if part of it is behind a different background. The color of the text is transparent to whatever app content is below it so to make it visible they would probably need to invert the portion of rendered text that’s not within the percentage which is like medium effort but the results would still be hard to read.

I’m so happy for that! The low battery pop-up could be annoying at times.

I have a question tho, for anyone that already got their hand over the new iPhone 14 Pro: Is it possible to disable the Dynamic Island notifications? Is it there a granular control to disable just some of the animations, for instnace, the waveform while recording audio from the microphone? Thank you.

Dynamic Island is proving to be a Great multi tasking tool that eliminates the need to go into a dedicated app while you’re doing other things. Love 🔥it. Oh yeah that low battery warning interrupting anything you were in the middle of was very annoying.

Now ONLY if Apple got rid of the modal in-your-face pop up of Ads To Playlist when adding a song to such in Music app!

I don’t understand. This dynamic island feature is not new. As a matter of fact I remember in the good old jailbreaking days you can move all types of notifications to the status bar including volume, battery, and scrollable text messages like a ticker while you’re doing something else 🤷‍♂️

Let me help you understand. I know you’re not saying that the ticker feature is 1:1 with the implementation of dynamic island 🏝. and the notification status bar in the jailbreak is not something the majority the public was using so it’s going to be new for them. The other thing I don’t think the status bar that you talk about from the past was open to third parties to be able to use. I highly doubt that the level of integration and the smoothness of animations was ever reproduced before. Are you getting the phone? It’s going to be available Friday. You check it out and use it for a few days and come back and tell us that it’s the same

The only concern I have with this is the idea of creating annoying software design that can be fixed with a more expensive model. I don't think we should be encouraging that.

I like it. I hope it cuts down on alert spam for notifications that are very transient and only relevant for a very short period. Between this and live notifications, I think there may be an appropriate notification method for everything, but disappearing, time-limited notifications would also be great to see Apple add. Particularly if you could override in the notification settings. I’d also like a way to opt out of advertising notifications, but still get other notifications.

Would love an option to enable Dynamic Island lite on older phones. Maybe with opt-in since it would take more screen real estate.

No matter what Apple named this feature (Dynamic Island), someone somewhere would have criticized. That's human nature. Apple could have simply not named it and folks still would have criticized. The marketing goal is to apply a name that quickly reveals what the feature does and a name that's catchy and therefore easy to remember. I think Dynamic Island meets the marketing goals. I think the name also accomplishes something else: It packages a functionality that Apple's competitors already have in way that is unique to Apple and creates a feeling of exclusivity among Apple lovers.
