As we inch closer to the holidays, supply of iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max models remains heavily constrained and unlikely to meet the holiday demand in the United States. On the flip side, several other products, including iPads, Macs, lower-end iPhone models, AirPods, and more, remain available for customers who are holiday shopping this year.

As we reported last month, supply constraints and ongoing restrictions in Apple's production plants meant that iPhone 14 Pro supply would be critically low. "We now expect lower iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max shipments than we previously anticipated, and customers will experience longer wait times to receive their new products," Apple said in a press release last month, confirming reports of disruptions.

One month later and closer to the holidays, iPhone 14 Pro supply seems to have not yet fully recovered. Wait times for both models of the high-end 2022 iPhone series were set at around six weeks one month ago, and are now set at around three weeks. While the situation appears to be ever so slightly improving, the three-week wait time puts the iPhone 14 Pro out of reach for customers looking to have it by the holidays.

While you may be unable to order and get an iPhone 14 Pro for a loved one this holiday season, the rest of Apple's product lineup remains in ample supply. For example, the lower-end iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are estimated to arrive to customers in just a few days, according to Apple's online store, as are the third-generation AirPods and AirPods Pro, new 10th-generation iPad, certain Macs, Apple Watch, and HomePod mini.

So my wife finally decided to upgrade her 12 Pro to a 14 Pro. I told her to expect it to arrive in mid to late January. Undeterred, she went over to the local AT&T store and placed her order last Friday and on Monday morning the FedEx guy was standing at the door. We were both shocked and delighted that it arrived so quickly after all of the downer reports we had heard.

I have a 14Pro and wish I had kept my 12. Cameras are nice and screen brightness is nice, but it feels like a brick in my pocket in comparison.

Still using my iPhone X, anything I get from here on out will be a quantum leap.
I am still on my X. I am starting to see performance issues. But its still supported. I have a self imposed upgrade to next years iPhone 15 Pro Max, but I very much will try to keep my X running until Apple stops releasing iOS updates for it and wait another year on top of that since it would still get security updates. So, 2025 is not out of the question.

Buying someone a phone feels like gifting someone a washing machine. A £1000+ utilitarian device doesn’t seem like a common present.
This exactly. How do you buy someone else a phone these days? Unless you're buying it for a child, in which the iPhone 14 Pro shortage probably isn't a problem.

Hmm interesting. I upgrade every year practically free with trade in from the carriers

I view it more like getting a game console for Christmas. You pretty much need one in this day and age, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any joy to be derived from getting one regardless.

I got my 14 PM in September so I’m happy.

I love the style just as I loved the iPhone 4 that got me into the Apple world. If not, would I wait for the 15 - for me no. I like having a sim tray that will probably disappear in next year’s model where I am. I like stainless steel and glass and hate titanium as it scratches and can leave chunks of material behind when hit against concrete. USB C is only an advantage if you get increased speed and need it - which most don’t - otherwise it is inferior to Lightening and failure prone with a connection that slips out easily. I would wait a year before I go all in on capacitive buttons - but that’s just me. A periscope lens is a plus I wouldn't mind having.

The new form factor is ugly even if it is more comfortable in the hand. Now, when Apple changes the form factor the hardware is usually mundane in changes like my 12 PM. So getting a 14 Pro in the New Year may not be all that bad if you think like me…
