The cost of transistors is increasing due to slowing chip scaling. This year, Apple has chosen to add memory but continue using A15. We saw about 10-20% CPU performance uplift for A14/M1 to A15/M2. We can expect similar or slightly less with A16. Which would you prefer?

I personally don't care about performance between the 2 SOC's. A15 is fast enough to handle any application for a few years. What I do care about is if there are additional power reductions in the A16 over the A15 and get an extra hour or 2 of screen on time.

The 6gb of ram is more of a buying factor. Getting lots of app reloads these days on my 12 with 4gb but the a14 is still lightning fast. I would presume it would be some sort of modified a15 anyway, maybe the a15 from the 13 pro or an a15x of sorts.

Yes i think the A15 with 5 core GPU and 6 GB RAM would be an acceptable upgrade over the standard A15 for the Iphone 14, but of course everyone wants the newer A16, that's the reality.

My honest answer? I don’t think it makes any difference for me or the vast majority of people which processor it comes with because we simply wouldn’t be able to tell the difference in use. The hardware on iPhones has gotten so good in the last 5 years that the speed of the devices are plenty fast enough beyond 1 or 2 years anyway.

Its really hard to imagine phones being better than the current lineup. I won't be upgrading from the 13 for a long time. Its been the perfect phone really, I can't really find any faults with it.

My answer: I would like to see A16/6GB RAM.
Question, is there no chance they may take the 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max to 8GB RAM? Given that there is a lot of talking around a new and improved camera, will Apple not be looking to beef up RAM for the extra load to?

Indeed. My iPhone 12 is still plenty fast enough for my daily uses to be honest and if it had better battery life I’d likely keep it another year. I don’t play games on phones and never have so I never really stretch the processor to its fullest capability.

I think you’re talking about the 14 Pro and not the 14.

All credible rumors indicate 6GB and I agree it's a bit disappointing. Perhaps iOS 17 will get virtual memory swap.
