You never had it charged to 100%? You should do it here and there to calibrate the battery.in my experience doesn't really matter
I religiously kept it between 20-80% (my 14 PM ) and battery health took a swan dive over the course of the year.
pretty much no wireless charging either and always OEM bricks. it's sat at 88% health for some time now though well over 6 months
Battery health really is mostly luck of the draw. Aside from regularly exposing your battery to temperature extremes, nothing that the user does is likely to make a significant difference.in my experience doesn't really matter

Sure it still works fine but IMO it didn’t age well.Yes, very happy with my launch day 14PM in space black. The frame and bezels are still like new. Battery is 98% health. All good.
Maybe yours which I’m sorry to hear about. But mine is mint. And I’m very fussy. I primarily used it inside an Apple silicon case.Sure it still works fine but IMO it didn’t age well.
I didn’t meant mechanically. See my posts above. Not able to run all apps within a year isn’t well aging.Maybe yours which I’m sorry to hear about. But mine is mint. And I’m very fussy. I primarily used it inside an Apple silicon case.
That's "optimize battery charging". That's not the same as what the newer devices have and what the OP is referring to, which puts a hard limit of 80% on the battery's charging. The "optimize" feature has the phone attempt to learn when it should charge past 80% based on your charging habits. It may work well for people who charge on a regular schedule. I've found that for someone like me who just charges as I feel like or need to, with no regular routine, it does absolutely nothing because it can't establish a pattern.
So no, the 14 series doesn't have the feature that the OP is referring to for 80% charging.
I think it's also the price. The higher the price the higher the expectations. My 5S was 800 Euros, the X 1100 Euros and the 14PM over 2000 Euros. For sure, as expected with a flagship iPhone. This is a phone I expect to last for at least 3 years, probably longer. That’s why I go for the “latest and greatest” when buying a phone, so it will not get too far behind along with all the annual iterations. OP, the points you’re listing is fair enough but to be expected, and you just have to upgrade yearly to stay on top in that case. If you can’t buy a pro max and have it for years, then I don’t know. It’s partly FOMO involved here isn’t it, and I ask that in all kindness?
My iPhone Xʀ on iOS 12 is 4.7 years old. It has lived at high SoC (close to 100%) for the majority of its life. Battery life is 18.5 hours of SOT. Health is 90%. Nothing else to say.in my experience doesn't really matter

Low brightness, no Airplane Mode, no iBooks. Web browsing, texting, Netflix.Airplane mode + minimal brightness + reading book?
That’s the only scenario I can imagine to be able to get such SOT.
Question for you; why did you buy the device if you thought it was poor value for money?I think it's also the price. The higher the price the higher the expectations. My 5S was 800 Euros, the X 1100 Euros and the 14PM over 2000 Euros.
For over 2000 Euros I expected more to be honest. Yes it's fine but I paid more than it was worth it. That's what I feel about the purchase. The older iphone purchases felt better.
There is lucky factor (from manufacturer batch), but user treatments affect as well (ie, frequently in heat environment, frequent discharge to 0%).Battery health really is mostly luck of the draw. Aside from regularly exposing your battery to temperature extremes, nothing that the user does is likely to make a significant difference.
