iPhone 15: How do I create a shortcut for automatic silent mode? [MERGED]

You don't even need a shortcut for this, just add the focus filter for "silent mode" to your work focus, and make sure you have a "smart activation" for it based on your work location. I have my work focus set up this way.

I actually need it because my MagSafe charger is plugged in to an automated wall plug which gives electricity only for 3 hours during the night. So when I’m sleeping it makes a loud MagSafe noise. You all hear it when you put your phone on a MagSafe which gives electricity.

And there’s even an option for it in shortcut app as I shown in my previous post so… why it can’t work?

srsly? You don't have it in:
Shortcuts > Automation > Add new Automation > E.g. Do Not Disturb > Next > New Blank Automation > Add Action > All Actions or Search for apps and actions: "Set Silent Mode" ?

I have it but it's broken... Can't even use it =/

Looks like Apple knows better who will use what on his device. You with 15 PM - use action button. and me with regular 15 - gtfo, use mute switch. Sure, I will wake up every time at 3AM in the night to switch it before charging starts.

I want to silence the camera sound. I can set the volume of the shutter sound with the "Set Ringtone volume" action but even at 0% camera apps still make a sound.

Same on my 14 Pro max. Want to „disable“ the MagSafe charging sound, but this is not possible with shortcuts…
Can only be achieved via silent mode or disabling system haptics completely. But these aren’t shortcut actions.

Hello guys,
I have issue that when I changed volume for ringtone to 0%, I can still hear the sound. It is not completelly silent. But it shows me O%. It is not working for me via shortcuts BUT also not working manually from settings!
Anyone the same experience?
Media volume works well.
Somebody who knows why? Thanks!

Here's the Shortcut I'm using now. It's @arw's with the added "Turn Silent Mode On" and "Turn Silent Mode Off" below their placeholders.

Really looking for something like this ... and want to use the action button to do the following:
Whenever the action button is pressed, the silence mode is turned on (in case it's off) and the actual media volume value is saved to a file and the media volume is set to 0. As soon as the action button is pressed again, the silence mode is turned off again, the media volume will be set again to the value saved in the file.
Any possibility to share the shortcut itself by file instead of a screenshot 🙂 ? Many thanks!

What would be the Apple Shortcut to set to Silent mode to On now, and then to Off when I leave where I am now? In other words a one time action for an infrequent location, but in just one Shortcut instead of having to create a new one.

Reviving this thread. I've got this working for when I come and go from home on iOS 26. Also on a movie theater that we regularly.

Here's for leaving the theatre. Shortcuts is still cryptic enough to make one would think that this is activating Silent Mode, but clicking on the right arrow is "Turn Silent Mode Off"

If understanding correctly, tap on "Off" and you will be given options of "On", "Off", "Ask Each Time". Choose accordingly.

No options. Run the shortcut on iPhone and Silent Mode is set to On, and when leave current location set Silent Mode to off. Maybe 100m radius, maybe more to allow for spurious GPS in a building.

Ah! Now I think I understand what you're trying to do. And don't think you can do it with just an Automation. Might need to use Focus.

Setup a dummy Focus, "Temp Silent". "Silence Notifications From" checked for People, no people listed. Apps, will need figure out if allow or not and what to put in the list.

Now you setup Automations, "When Focus Temp Silent Turned On" and "...Turns Off", calling appropriate flavor of silence. To activate, turn on the Focus with "until I leave".

I'm a big user of this, have several Focuses defined for different levels of silence, most have locations defined but will use on an ad-hoc basis by manually turning on per above.

This makes it confusing for me, hence my comment about tapping On/Off/Ask. I'm working under the assumption you have a Shortcut defined and that is the action and values: Turn Silent Mode Off", which is what you want for leaving the theater.

This is the Turn Silent Mode action for Watch being used, correct? If so, can tap on the Action's "Turn" and change it to "Toggle". That way can have one Shortcut to do it all, but there is no way that I know of to setup a temporary location based Automation/trigger to do a "...when leaving".

Thank you for your comments. I think I'll wait until I understand Automations and Shortcuts better before tackling this.

I may be confusing you because the the image I posted says "Do: Set Silent Mode." I don't want Sllent Mode I want it Off. I read the words, the bell with a line through it gets ignored (by me as I just see it as decoration). If said "Turn Ringer On" or "Set Silent Mode Off" those would resonate better. But "Silent" to "Off"requires another mental step.

I'm not saying I'm right, but I doubt I'm the only person who see it that way. Looking at the image again, but does the walking man signify? Oh there's a line to his left (or behind him), what does that mean. Point is this is a meaningless to difficult to understand icon, so ignore icons is the message.
