It’s a PU leather. Says so on the Ali Express listings.

These new plastic Vegan leather replacements will be billed as a new "Save the planet" Apple initiative which in reality is Apple shaving cost out of these cases, selling them for the same (or more) than the leather case making Tim look like a hero as he recoups revenue lost switching to USB-C from Lightning - The same Save the planet story they made up when they pulled chargers out of the iPhone box.

Wow! I never expected my smart-ass comment about saving the planet would turn out to be the whole very dumb theme of the whole iPhone presentation yesterday!!
