Seems that unlike iOS's native camera app, 3rd party apps (such as WhatsApp, Instagram, etc) don't have the ability to switch into macro mode automatically.

This means that any close-up photos are blurry as the main camera doesn't focus at such a short distance.

Is this a known issue?

The issue is the minimum focus distance on the main camera lens on iPhone 14/15 Pro. I think most third party apps just use the main lens and would need to program switching lenses.

Amazing that app developers haven't done anything about it and its been an issue for well over a year.
