I upgraded to the Iphone 15 pro. Can I use my 18w charger that came with my Iphone 11 Pro or do I have to buy a 20w charger? I don't want to damage my new phone if the 18w will damage it in any way?

Try to use your existing charger first to see if it works well enough. If it does not work, get the 20 watts one. Hope the existing one work for you.😊 I only use 20 watts one following iPad charger Apple provided.

What's the difference between the 18w and the 20w? Why did Apple feel the need to create the 20w?

Apple has decided that to charge iPhone 12 and above 'faster' it need at least 20W charger. If you are someone who leave your mobile on charge for longer period, for ex. overnight, a 5W charger is enough. It charges slowly but doesn't stress the battery at all. I use an Anker 65W to charge my macbook pro and iPhone at work. At home, a 45W charges does the same.

It’s ok. I prefer to use a slow 5W charger with an IKEA USB A to USB C cable to preserve battery health

Lol, 2w. That's the difference.

The new iPhones can charge up to 27w, so you're fine with anything slower. Your phone will *Surprise* just charge more more slowly. But I doubt you'll even perceive the difference.

I charge my 15 PM, overnight, with the original 5 watt Apple charger and a USB-A to USB-C cable from Anker. Charging is slow but while I am sleeping, no hurry. The phone never even gets warm

I thought I was being a weirdo for doing this, but glad to see I'm not alone.... Since I only charge overnight and don't need fast charging on a regular basis, I figured I would do it this way to try and preserve some battery.... I charged my 14PM on a wireless charger every night and battery health was down to 90% after one year..... Trying to avoid that this time around.

I use the 5w charger and an Anker usb-a to usb-c cable to charge my 15PM to 80%.. Works great. I've also used my 12.9 5th gen iPad Pro usb-c charger a few times and it definitely cuts down the charge time significantly

Of course it will work.

I do try to care about charging and battery cycles but I don’t think that it matters so much. I was very concerned about my 12PM but after a year its battery capacity dropped to 91%. Then I stopped bothering about it. Now, almost three years and 1070 cycles later it’s at 84%. with normal usage, it’s still good for a day.

In comparison, with this care (5W and 80% limit) my two years old 13P is at 96%

I charged my 14 Pro to 80-100% each evening (rarely overnight) using a 16W charger and it made it to the end of the year at !00% battery health. Wouldn't count on the accuracy of that however. I think the 16W charger came with an earlier iPad I had.

I have several 20W chargers in the home and all with different things hooked up to them like a lightening cable for the wife's 13 Mini, a Apple Watch fast charging puck, a lightening cable to iPad mini, and a single 30 watt charger for my MacBook Air and u then a usb c from iPhone 15 pro hooked up to my 2017 iMac 5K.

I used any one I can to hookup to my iPhone 15 Pro including the 30 watt charger, the 20 watt charger and even to the iMac. My phone does not care as long as it is usb c connection it is fine. I actually prefer the slower rate of charge that the iMac provides as well it lets me do a local backup of my iPhone.
