My spouse is planning on getting an iPhone 15 Pro Max and I am doing some quick research for him.

I seem to recall that there are one or two features that a 256gb model can't do compared to higher capacity models due to limitations of storage. Was it something about not being able to record videos at a certain resolution or something like that? Couldn't find this information on Apple's own tech specs page.

There’s no limitation in the iPhone 15 pro models.
The storage limitation was for the iPhone 14 pro models when shooting hi res video.

Excellent! Thank you for pointing this out! It's good to know.

TBH, when those limitations appeared, I was thinking: Why is Apple doing this? Just provide the base storage necessary to have FULL functions!

Because the thing they limited (Apple ProRes Raw) is a really niche feature that the avg consumer shouldn't ever use, (it's a video file which includes all the information the sensor captures so that in post-processing you can basically grade it the way you (you being a professional) want) so to up the base storage just for a niche option seems a bit much.

And offering an option that would fill your iphone in 10 minutes (ProRes Raw is about 12GB per minute of filming) also seemed a bit stupid).

Another thing worth talking about is that iPads Pro 1TB/2TB have 16GB of ram instead of 8GB like the 256/512GB Pros.

Maybe in the future same thing will happen on higher capacity Pro iPhone’s.

15 Pro 128gb is still limited in prores format internal shooting (the same limit carryover from 14Pro) - it is just not mentioned on the website.

All models 256gb and more are equal and have no limitations.

Space is good for music, games, photos, etc. My phone is like my pocket computer, I have everything on it. I went from a 256GB XS Max to 1TB 14 Pro.. in hindsight 512 is probably good enough.. :D
