This makes no difference to me as I doubt I’ll use visual intelligence at all on my 15 Pro. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It always seemed a bit odd that the feature would be dependant on a button. I get that that's the workflow, but surely (as now confirmed) there's alternatives.

They could even copy the circle to search from Android.
I don’t think anyone thought you needed the button, it’s a button! lol. You can easily put the option on the screen. But then again, Apple did sell the users the “action button”, just a regular plain old button as something new lmao.

I have turned off Apple Intelligence on all my devices. It is beyond useless.
Me too for various reasons, but I’m hoping I can have Visual Intelligence with all the rest still turned off.

Did anyone actually thought you needed a button to activate it?
I saw some people claiming that. But, even if that were so, the 15 Pro has the Action Button. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Finally looking forward to one of the 18.x betas because of this feature, thanks?

Great to see that the 16e forced Apple’s hand. They know the tech community was going to flame them nonstop if a weaker phone could do something the 15 Pro couldn’t.

As the owner of a 15 Pro, I’m happy to hear this — although I’m assuming this is less of a “let’s throw a bone to the 15 Pro owners” and more of a “the adoption rate on this AI stuff is behind target, let’s get more people using Visual Intelligence so we can get more data for training and development.”

If Apple Intelligence becomes available for my 15 Pro Max, I’ll give it a try. So far, my experience has been mixed, but I’m willing to wait as Apple refines it. To remain competitive against OpenAI and others, Apple must stay ahead in AI advancements.

As for why it was withheld from the 15 Pro and Pro Max, the reason is unclear. It may not have been ready for older hardware or required further testing before release.

I hope it proves valuable, even if it doesn’t fit my routine. One potential use case could be integrating it with Apple Maps to read road signs and provide relevant trip information.

Time will tell.

The hilarious part is that folks were just defending the iPhone 16e getting it, but not the 15 Pro, due to "hardware limitations of the A17 Pro"
Not that I was one of the people that said that, but how do you know it's not a nerfed down model or a much more optimized model that they just finished cooking up? At the time, it probably was limited by hardware.

Because if deepseek taught us anything, it shows that we can get higher performance in smaller models. Apple found a way to bring something that wasn't originally planned for 15 Pro.

I guess anything that shows APPLE IS BAD AND GREEDY, we'll just beat that drum.

Apple now getting slammed for adding a new feature to older devices - I've seen everything. Do we seriously think people actually upgraded their iPhone 15 Pros to 16 Pros for Visual Intelligence?
It's incredible.

At first they're like "Apple intentionally added more computational steps that require A18 for visual intelligence". Now they changed the argument to "Apple is just artificially creating demand for A18 devices and then bringing the features back to old devices".

To withhold this from the 15 pro was a classic upselling move in the first place..
Yeah that was a dick move, witholding the one Apple Intelligence feature because it was only bound to work with the camera control button, where it could have easily been added as an Action Button feature, or even a mode or virtual button in the Camera App. I actually hope that it will be able to be activated in a different way rather than only the action button, because I use the button for something else on my 15PM.

Well, looks like Apple has done massive performance optimization on to make Visual Intelligence sing on A17 Pro Neural engine.

At this point, iOS 18.4 is likely going to be released alongside new iPad Air and iPad when it launches in April or May. (No huge Apple event planned still for this though, just brief press release)
Visual Intelligence is quite literally just a mishmash of the existing Visual Look Up, nearby places in Maps, and Google / ChatGPT

I hope it’s a Shortcuts action

If Apple added it to iPhone 15 Pro from the start: “Almost no new features on 16 Pro compared to 15 Pro, also, no one will use this, where do I turn it off!”

If Apple never added it to iPhone 15 Pro: “Greedy Apple just wants you to upgrade, they are gatekeeping features!”

Now that Apple is adding it to iPhone 15 Pro: “Apple should’ve added it from the start, they suck!”
