Giffgaff wrote an article in August, so they had already declared they were bringing eSIM.

What are the eSIM benefits?

"giffgaff is developing its own eSIM, which you can get your hands on this year. Stay tuned on this channel for updates."

They accidentally updated support document on 4th September which quickly got removed.

Well welcome news we not losing the SIM tray.

ID mobile have now relived the eSIM page. It redirects to physical SIM help.

Looks like even the networks weren’t entirely sure.

I did really think it happen in UK for iPhone 15. Was kinda surprised it didn’t. If does happen in UK for iPhone 16 EE better offer eSIM for PAYG! That what I use.

For anyone that cares about travelling widely, a SIM slot free phone is simply not a possibility for the next half decade or more.

Edit: As discussed before, for those that do not travel much, or are happy to be bent over paying insane fees, then such a device would likely be acceptable.

Interesting. If this turns out to be true, I think I'll get the 15 to replace my 13. Just for the peace of mind.

Have to admit, I haven't used the tray for a long time. But I still prefer to have have it for the time being :).

Lucky there aren't any counties in the world that haven't migrated fully to eSIM, eh? 🤦‍♂️

Yep sure is!
All I’m saying is they did it in the US chances are after 2 years they will probably introduce elsewhere and UK/Europe are likely candidates.

But what about Asia and Africa and South America? Think they're all hot on America's heels? I've been to 15 countries in the last year, and could buy an eSIM in about half. In a couple it would have been stupid to do, however, as the price was about double.

Like I say they did it in the US. Do you not think people in the US travel to these countries? Apple will already have their roadmap and it would t surprise me if this is the year for us.

Statistically Americans don't travel much, no.

I'll happily travel to a different country to get an iPhone that hasn't lost its SIM slot. I love travelling too much to go to places and find my phone is suddenly useless
