The article claiming the different alignment of lenses will make the device instantly recognisable as the latest model is something we shouldn't say in this day and age. I doubt many people are bothered if someone has the latest iPhone or not. I dont look at other peoples phones at all that way.. im beyond being envious of other peoples tech. I don't care.

Actually the opposite… I'm impressed when someone is still using an older iPhone and kept it in great condition. That to me is a much more positive thing than always having the latest stuff.

We are on iPhone 15 and they all pretty much look the same, and all usually go in a case. They are just black monoliths.

Id be way more interested in Apple doing its environmental duty and adding modularisation within an ultra compact form factor. If something breaks, you can quickly swap it out, if something wears out, you can swap it out. If you need a better camera, you can swap it out.

Very interesting info on the capture button. Now it’s sounding more like something that could mimic larger cameras in terms of offering different functionality depending on how hard or long the button is pressed.

That sounds a lot more useful and exciting than just another button, especially if it’s customizable. For example a photographer can set it to take longer exposures by holding down the button.

Anytime I read these I always think of the Simpsons episode:

I'm not a fan of the two-tiered camera bump with the iPhone X-style layout, though it would be great if they could stick a LiDAR Scanner in the middle of the two cameras to improve spatial video.

I wonder if they could get rid of the two-tiered bump by placing the flash and mic flush with the glass back (not unlike the iPhone 8 Plus). That would really make it look different and could attract more sales.

A 48MP Ultra Wide and 48MP Telephoto (in the Pro models) as well as sensor-shift OIS for all lenses would really round out the camera system well. 8K video recording would be a nice bonus.

EDIT: I agree with some of the other commenters here that iPhone exterior design seems to have stagnated. I would like to see a new design that would be analogous to what the iMac G3 was to 90's Macs; hopefully talented designer(s) at Apple can do that.

I will add my view to the increasing number of comments that point out that this is simply an aesthetic variant on everything we have had since the iPhone 12.

Come on Apple, try thinking out of the box. I know it will have the latest hardware and 'amazing' software (sarcasm intended) but phones are more than functional lumps in our hands. We need something that looks and feels differently as well. I can understand that there is not much you can do with the idea of a slab of metal and glass in your hand, but let's try something different.

I am a fan of the folding phone (especially the one with the aspect ratio of the Pixel Foldable) but I aim sure you can find another way to package the phone. Make the phone shape fit the hand better, shape the back to make it easier to hold, and stop the issues caused when you pick it up when you accidentally press all the buttons or take another screen shot etc. A solid slab with vertical sides is past its aesthetic sell by date. But this is just me, of course. But I am afraid this projected design (it is only a rumor of course and could be completely wrong) is just boring, irrespective of the advancements made in the internals.

I don't care about the exact camera layout and such, but I really hope they release better colors next year! This year's non-Pro colors were absolutely pitiful...all of them are so pale (pastel) that they appear to be white in many photos and videos.

Probably my favorite iPhone color so far is the forest green 13. The silver iPhone 15 Pro is also very nice this year, but I don't have any interest in buying a Pro phone.

It looks basically the same as it has since iPhone 12. They’ll put last year’s processor in the lower end models and the pros will get the next bump up. The cameras will be a little better. Yay!

I really like the unified volume button design.

Apple could arrange the cameras across the top of the back. That way the phone won’t wobble when laid and it even offers a small viewing angle.

I am also interested to know if Apple will give 16 more ram, from 6GB to 8GB.

And obviously there won’t be promotion to the base models.

Can't say I'm a fan of that vertical pill
Yeah, as much as I liked my X which I still have (in my iPhone “museum”), it wouldn’t make sense to bring that design back in any way. Some people may not like the return to the iPhone 12 design either, but I guess Apple may not be ready to give it a more radical look like one of their patents once hinted towards.

Apple has lost its way since ivy left and Cook took the helm. New buttons & camera rotations do not count for a design change.

I am hoping that iphone 16 pro max will have a design overhaul with a larger display.

I have spent to much in the Apple ecosystem to leave it. But the companies product releases are starting to get tiresome and boring.

Apple has had one year to come up with something useful. New buttons and a new camera bump does not cut it.

The only thing that keeps changing is the cost.

Honestly considering how ugly most android phones look I actually like the conservative look that apple is going for.

They usually keep a similar design for about 3-4 gens

Og/3g/3gs
4/4s with a refresh but still same body style as 5/5s/5c

5/6/6s/7/8

X/xs/11

12/13/14/15 though this would be the longest with the 16

I still can’t grasp how people doing this for a living imagine that Apple is still making hardware decisions about next year’s iPhone.

The hottest rumour would be iPhone Ultra, a companion for Watch Ultra. Rugged, portless, no camera bump,…

Throw it off a tall building and it lands on a patch of lawn…intact baby
