Sorry, you're just going to have to stop complaining and hurry up and evolve

Some people buy for features, not just size. Which the pro max has the most features as well
That's totally true. But the feature difference to regular Pro is quite small. I would say size preference would be more important to most people than difference between 5x and 3x optical zoom. And most people still prefer Pro Max.

The big size trend can also be seen in the Android sales numbers. Most people just do prefer bigger phone.

That’s why they sell several different sized iPhones. If it’s too big don’t get this one
Sure, but Apple keeps locking the most premium camera features behind the Max. It's not purely a size difference.

That said, I was still happy to go from the 12 Pro Max to the 14 Pro. It is in fact possible for a phone to be too big. And the fact that they're still only getting bigger, if even marginally, is bordering on absurd.

I'm satisfied with the size on my 15PM but if the newer Pro Max devices will follow this larger form factor I wouldn't mind.. I doubt there's a need for a larger device but who knows what will happen in a couple of years. I guess if they get to a point where sales suffer they'll know they went too big

It’s the weight that matters. iPhones are like bricks these days compared to the halcyon days of the 6 series. So praying this pro max 16 isn’t getting any heavier.

I wish they went the Apple Watch route where the material makes no difference to the functionality of the device. I’d happily get an aluminium pro phone. Titanium was a step in the right direction but a lighter material already exists.

And here I thought the 15 Pro Max was huge compared to my old 11 Pro Max... in a few years, maybe the Pro Max will be the new iPad Mini? :p

I’m a huge iPhone fan but how long do they expect to milk the same old design? Wouldn’t it be nice if they came up with some actual innovation once in a while?
Like what? What massive physical redesign do you want to see?

There’s also another factor: people want one device to do everything. A larger screen phone has the screen realestate to do most things people often want to do, even though some tasks can’t be done on a phone very well, such as remotely controlling a computer.

I mean, it’s the most efficient way to house the triple cameras by far.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it
Wrong.

Pixel 6, 7, 8 and soon 9 have the best because the bar allows the phone to lay on its back and not rock, while also allowing for larger lens each year without increasing the bar, which would make it look hilariously stupid like the current iPhone 15 pro.

I’m not bashing people’s preference for bigger devices. In this case, I’m merely curious what’s the point? As it stands, the Max doesn’t really do anything that the regular Pro doesn’t.

A couple Split View panes isn’t all that. For me, the only appreciable differences are battery life and the 5x lens. Now it’s going to be .2” bigger and offer the same experience?

I wouldn’t be opposed to this if we had more multi-tasking capability or a pen for more mini-tab like experiences. If that were the case, I’d like to see a phone touch 7”. That being said, I would also like to see a 3-device line-up to cover more preferences: 5.8, 6.3, 6.9.

Possible.

But for me it's very limited what I can achieve on my phone. And the screen size is not the limitation (for me). It's the touchscreen and lack of physical controls and most importantly it's the OS limitations. No possibility to run app in the background on demand, no possibility to have multiple apps on the screen at once... The software is what limits better productivity on my phone. I've tried phones with bigger screens and solely the bigger screen did not help at all (to me).

But again, that's just me. It's a subjective matter of course.

Just a sidestep - imagine the world where you could connect your iPhone to the USB-C docking station and get full desktop experience. The power is certainly there (hell, you can play latest Resident Evil or Death Stranding on it; it got the same amount of RAM as the lowest tier MacBook Air!). I know Apple will never do this, but just imagine this. The hardware is definitely capable of it.

The only real negative for me is I'm buying a new case every time I get a new phone. Thats a me problem but year after year, even if it stays the same size, the buttons move or the thickness changes just enough to require a new case. If you're one that never uses a case you are better off. The new phones slightly larger size is fine, it's already a commitment to own a large phone but I have done so since the 6 Plus so I'm used to it.
How is your case not totally worn out and ready for replacement by the time you get a new phone? Do you even need a case if you treat it that gently?

My cases usually look like they've been through a war zone by upgrade time.

We’re never getting a redesign, huh? Lol. We’re stuck with the same stove top camera layout for 10 more years.
I know. It’s pretty disappointing, in my opinion. 12-15 (&16) are the exact same. The innovation use to excite me and now there is none of that.

I know most people don't like this. But I happen to be one who buys the Pro Max because I want a large phone. This size increase looks perfect to me. Glad to see the phone is getting wider and not just taller.

I've ALWAYS opted to use cellular iPad Mini to ALSO cover mobile telephony & texting needs (with buds + VOIP app). IMO: all other apps are BETTER on the bigger screen and telephony is "good enough" as "just another app" much like a flashlight, map or tape measure app is good enough vs. the actual thing. No issues/problems of consequence for me in at least 8+ years doing this. Much cheaper for both device & 5G service & iPads seem to have much longer use-life "legs" too (so fewer upgrade needs: last hop was 2 to 6. Next probable hop will be 9 or 10).

I suspect the desire for "more screen" dominates decision-making around the world (thus much experimenting with rolls/folds too) and that future iPhones will only continue to grow. I believe for many buyers, a smart phone is also their primary computer (many are not able to "collect them all").

The challenge for a product very clearly branded as a "phone" is maintaining (normal) pocket-ability, which- for me- is the one standout weakness of iPad Mini doubling as phone. Conceptually, pocket-ability fixes the width at some MAX, which means length will have to the THE WAY forward.

I presume at some point an iPhone <future> product tucked in a back pocket that hits you in the back of the head when you look up will be peak length. ;)

But there's benefit even then: you can have a Crocodile Dundee moment vs. the other "knives"...

The battery life difference is massive. The screen is also better for most things you’d want to do on it - reading, watching a movie, etc. The better cameras are just icing on the cake.

But having said that, I don’t like how it looks in my pocket. Too big, sloppy. I’m switching to the regular Pro if its battery life improves.

Suggestion: don't buy a new phone every year. Hang on to the one you have until at least the case falls apart. Each generation is only a bundle of relatively tiny improvements over the prior, many of which require specs to prove it... but are not really noticeable in typical usage.

Else, perhaps seek an opportunity to short-term lease a case. ;)
