Kuo is often right as far as supply chain components are concerned. He probably has insider info on what electronic components Apple is buying in bulk but not how exactly they will be implemented.

And no stacked 1/1.14” IMX903 main sensor with transistors and photo diodes on a separate layer.
Exactly this. The most important failed prediction is missing on the list. The same X803 since the iPhone 14pro ist the biggest letdown and will me see skipping the iPhone 16 pro max. (It was rumoured to be only available in the pro max, which would have been similar to iPhone 12 Pro Max or the 15 pro Max in respect to the Tele lens). Not having an up-to-date top sensor in a 1500 $/€ phone is ridiculous.

You're right. They speak out of both sides of their mouths. LOL. They can never be wrong and they can never be right either! ;-)
They can never be wrong when they carefully word their rumors by using carefully chosen words or phrases such as saying something "may," "might," or "could" happen instead of something "will" happen, or my favorite "but obviously things can still theoretically change" 🤣

Exampe: Next years iPhone 17 series "could" see major improvements to its hardware with a complete redesign from the ground up, "but obviously things can still theoretically change"

All of the misses are just the updates in the pipeline that Apple held back so they could have something for next year. I mean, look at them. None except for the zoom are technologically difficult, but they'd hurt the bottom line and they need a bullet list for next year (or later).

The leaked colors were misses, too. Leaked iPhone 16 photos had colors that were bland compared with what was released. iPhone 16 Pro Desert Titanium looked, in photos, like mud.

Could MacRumors also do a tally of how correct the big name leakers were this time, like Gurman and Kuo? It would be interesting to keep a tally over the years of their accuracy and display that as a chart.
Just assume Gurman is wrong and you'll most likely be correct.

Been quite a good year for leaders! much better than last year, kuo was having a nightmare

It would be interesting to track if this 2T
b or any rumor for iPhone ended up in iPad or Apple TV.

I find the rumor misses sometimes hit on the next generation. Probably because of supply chain rumors, companies gearing up for new features, sometimes those features get pushed because of the ability to ramp up manufacturing or because the software to take advantage of the new hardware wasn't ready in time, etc.

For instance last year there were rumors about a capacitive button that had multiple levels of pressure, and everyone thought that was for the new action button, but turns out it was for this year's new camera button. Although looking back at last year's rumor report card, I don't see that mentioned. But funny enough, the 2TB storage and price increase for the smaller Pro were rumored last year as well.

Until a thing happens, it hasn't happened.

No one can predict the future with certainty. So smart people end up saying "might," "could," "plans to," etc. Those aren't weasel words, they are accurate statements from people who deal with reality.

What about the rumor the Apple announcement was going to be on September 10? It was actually on September 9th.

Also, what about the rumor of new stacked batteries? And an extended size Graphene sheet for cooling?

You missed one of the biggest and most irritating misses: no main sensor upgrade for the Pro Max.

Where's the "Surprises" section? Things nobody had any idea about, for which Apple gets an A and everyone else gets an F? lol

My expectations were fully achieved …

Rumors were saying increased zoom for Pro Max but was not expecting it. The polished titanium frame on the Series 10 seems to be nice. Will be good if polished titanium comes to iPhone next year!

How about +1 point for every new correct prediction and -1 for the wrong ones. And then compile a league table. Interesting would be the variation from year to year, ie is a good predictor this year likely to be a good predictor next year.

And add some weighting for the precision and accuracy of the prediction. Saying the base memory will be between 128 and 512 is basically worthless, saying it will stay at 128 is a bit more valuable.

A good statistics project for some students…

Hear it from me first, I predict the 17 Pro will have a 2TB option. And if not, then the 18 Pro. But if not…
Well, the good thing too is these posts, you can keep editing them in perpetuity. So if turns out 18 Pro doesn't have 2TB, well, go back to that post and fix it! LOL ;-) :)

Understood, it would be interesting ti see all predictions in like a table of what/when they said it and also the actual outcome…
I love that idea! A little bit more than a table, the "when" part could perhaps be displayed in some graphic format which would make sort of having a mental image easier to hold

BTW, I am sure to be missing something, but why the huge interest in a 2TB phone? Is this because for videos?

I for one have not gotten on the video bandwagon and probably never will. Somehow, I find "flipping" through videos not only painful but boring or maybe more like tedious. I don't really use videos for memories except in rather rare occasions. Mostly, the image memories I take are photos.
