Yes, you get more RAM. But, how much of that RAM is taken up by Apple Intelligence? The fact that Apple increased the base RAM configuration tells me that they are expecting AI to take up a sizable chunk of the RAM - hence the increase. If the AI is taking up a sizable chunk then are we still only able to use the same amount of RAM as we had before the increase happened? I may be wrong, but that is my suspicion.
The iPhone 15 Pro got AI in retrospect so it clearly wasn’t a calculated upgrade. One can still play Death Stranding whilst AI is turned on with no performance differences. Games development requires strict RAM optimisation; Apple can’t just take it away and hope for the best.

As I remember Apple wrote a research paper on squashing an SLM into 256mb of space. But it’s important to remember that Apple Intelligence isn’t running constantly in the background slowing down your phone.

Well, I don’t need AI and I’m glad we can turn it off. It’s sad that we aren’t looking at AI as simply one more thing that we’ll end up relying on that an enemy can take from us as a means to control us. I guess those years of military training did me some good after all.

Couldn’t agree more. While I see some good uses for AI, like in healthcare, I also see it as another way to control people. I want Apple to be very careful and do it the right way. Otherwise I’m not interested.

I'm now seeing AI therapy that people actually pay for. It's getting wild.
