Unfortunately that's just how business works... Every other major tech company is doing AI, so Apple had no choice but to implement their own AI solution... You have to reasonably know what the fallout would be if AI really takes off as a must have and Apple is far behind all other tech companies.
Let's be honest here. Apple just simply got caught with their pants down here. Apple is ALWAYS lagging behind others in tech advancements.... but this was not going to be a case of they'll Apple-fy it and be late but better.
There is no "if AI" takes off. It's who gets it right first.... and behind the scenes competitors are already leaps and bounds ahead of what they have in public use and making gains quickly.
Apple had a big pile of nothing in development. They'd barely even gotten started and were over a decade behind if not more. They didn't even have AI photo edits that Android threw out years ago or even a near competent virtual assistant technology (because Siri is just so bad.... and we've learned from former Siri team engineers it was a hopeless situation that really needed them to start over from scratch).
If Apple didn't have an AI showing this year they were going to be in trouble with investors. As it is, 95% of "Apple Intelligence" is not Apple technology but being licensed from their competitors.
The delays I expect to be delayed further... what they have created sounds like it does not work well and they're scrambling. Siri already has a reputation for being the stupidest assistant product. They can't have AI Siri come out the gate also stupid and frustratingly bad.... which it currently is. "Siri, text grandma the pictures from Christmas."
"Sure... texting grandma all pictures with cock rings in you camera roll..."
"Siri, unsend the message to grandma."
"Sure, forwarding the message to all work contacts and posting on your LinkedIN."
