The iPhone 16e will join the four other iPhone 16 models in being made in India, Apple has revealed.

In a response to a query from India's Economic Times, Apple said that "the entire iPhone 16 lineup, including iPhone 16e, is being assembled in India for Indian consumers and for export to select countries."

In recent years, Apple has significantly increased its production footprint in the country. Nikkei Asia suggests that the share of iPhones made in India will rise from around 15% today to 25% by 2027. The 16e is reportedly likely to be assembled on the same Indian production lines as the iPhone 14.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are the first high-end iPhone models to be made in India. Apple's iPhone exports from the country reached nearly $6 billion in the six months leading up to September 2024, representing a 33% increase compared to the same period last year. Apple is expected to begin production of AirPods in India for the first time later this year.

Note it does not actually say "Manufacturing" it says Assembled in India.
most of the parts are still manufactured in China. so this is only one step.

Also, who is assembling them in india for apple? I heard that Foxconn was making factories in India for apple, if that's the case, its still a Chinese firm...

China is actively trying to obstruct Foxconn’s efforts to build manufacturing facilities in India.

I thought Foxconn is Taiwanese, but I guess that’s debatable.

But it's still not moving jobs back in the USA!

That’s a misconception. Tim Cook is going to invest in the automotive industry which should create more jobs. Hyundai and Kia are building a massive auto plant in Georgia which will create more jobs.

That doesn't have anything to do with the iPhone being made overseas.

Trump just mentioned it. More info to come soon.
I can’t find any reference to Trump having mentioned Tim Cook would be investing in the automotive industry? Just that Cook/Apple cancelled some manufacturing in Mexico and planning to invest instead in US based manufacturing, but nothing about investment in the automotive industry? Would be a bit odd as Apple cancelled Apple car last year

Isn’t Foxconn a Taiwanese firm?
