I believe there have been comments on MR to that effect. So some do want it.

I'm one of them, for reasons I've listed in the past.

But I'm willing to wait until they're on display at the local Apple Store where I can play with one. And also read reviews from *credible* sources regarding performance etc, before passing judgement and reflexively slamming it with zero information before it's even released.

The iPhone 17 Air is a different value proposition than the Pro. I rarely use my iPhone camera (compared to real glass, they’re all meh), my close-up vision has taken a hit (I mean, just look at my eye!), so a bigger display (sans bigger phone) sounds like a perfect antidote. An A19 is not as big a deal breaker as 8MB of RAM would be, and it remains to be seen how well the high-density battery performs. Battery management is clearly a consideration for the very specific feature set of the iPhone 17 Air.

While I don’t have much interest in the rumored optional battery case, iOS 26 will likely have software updates that provide better battery management.

If I can swing it, I‘m in for 4 iPhone 17 Airs for my family this December.

I struggle to see the point of this. I don't think thickness was ever an issue not even the original iPhone. This a crippled phone. No functional speaker aside from the ear piece. The battery life will be an absolute joke.
Hear! Hear!

I don't have to believe it. It's in the article. The smaller the phone, the smaller the battery. the smaller the battery, the shorter the run time. I do believe in physics.

I'm happy to hear you believe in physics.

But you're neglecting new/superior battery chemistry that doesn't compromise battery life being of less volume, Apple's in-house modem chip that uses less power than Qualcomm's, and a new A19 processor chip that will use less power for a given level of performance.

I believe in superior systems engineering, which the above suggests.

Before claiming the 17 Air will absolutely have poor battery life, I would wait until it has been reviewed by credible sources.

And adding to the battery discussion, not all of us need the long battery life except occasionally. The light thin phone will meet my everyday needs I suspect, and for those few times I need additional life, a small external battery that MagSafe attaches will make the phone about the size of the pro. No need to carry the heavier phone day to day when the extra battery isn’t needed most days.

The beauty of it is, different phones for different use cases.

OK. And then we'll both know why Apple is selling a battery case for the first time ever, right?

So I have a question. Has anyone heard any discussion on whether the Air will support external displays or external hard drives like my 16 pro does ?

Can we just wait and see instead of arguing when there is no information, just rumors.

Spot on. Thank you. So far most everything said about the iPhone 17 Air is conjecture.

I guess speculation is enough for some to jump to conjecture being fact and it *always* is about Apple not knowing what they're doing and will produce a flop. And that TC must go.

People seem to always forget that all of Apple's flops (Apple III, Lisa, PowerMac G4 Cube, Newton, Apple iPod Sox, Apple HiFi, Macintosh TV, 20th Anniversary Mac, Pippin, etc.) were released under the previous CEO, not Cook.

I've heard no rumors regarding the above. And if there was a *rumor*, I wouldn't count on it being a fact.

That's why even though I'm pretty sure I want a 17 Air, I'll wait until its released and reviewed by a credible source, and am able to play with one in my local Apple Store.

With an new A-series processor chip and new Apple modem chip (both suggesting lower power dissipation for a given level of performance), and potentially new battery chemistry, I'm somewhat hopeful I'll be pleased.

Just have to wait and see.

Yes I agree. I’m excited about it and hopefully it will have the remote abilities. I’m not in need of the current pro battery life, will use a MagSafe battery the few times I need extra juice. If Apple is making a battery case as opposed to the MagSafe battery similar to what they’ve had in the past, I doubt I’d go for it. But an updated MagSafe battery like before with a usb-c plug would fit my needs perfectly.

But I must admit, I’m a IUP member and always order on day one, hour one. So hopefully the show in September and early prerelease reviews will answer my questions. But if there’s no information, I’ll go for it

Totally agree and would do something similar with a MagSafe battery, if needed.

Still... I'm still curious and hopeful that the three improvements I mentioned (new A series chip, new lower power modem chip, and new battery chemistry) will result in similar battery performance as previous iPhones. Just have to wait and see.
