All iPhone 17 models in Apple's upcoming flagship iPhone 17 series will use Samsung's high performance "M14" OLED display panel, according to the Weibo-based leaker Instant Digital.

Samsung's "M" series of OLED panels are made for flagship smartphones, while "14" refers to the number of high-performance materials used to produce them. The "M14" panel was used in last year's Apple's iPhone 16 Pro models, and delivers a 30% increase in brightness along with improved longevity compared to the previous M13 panel, thanks to improvements in the efficiency of the blue-emitting layer.

Oddly, Samsung's latest Galaxy S25 Ultra uses an improved version of the older M13 panel, so it looks like the regular iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air could well have an objectively better display in at least some respects.

Apple's use of the M14 panel for all models makes sense, as Apple intends to expand ProMotion to all iPhone 17 models to ramp up to a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and video content when necessary. Previously, only "Pro" models in Apple's iPhone lineup have had the feature.

Notably, ProMotion would also enable the display on the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air to ramp down to a more power-efficient refresh rate as low as 1Hz, allowing for an always-on display that can show the Lock Screen's clock, widgets, notifications, and wallpaper even when the device is locked.
Last year's iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max got bigger display sizes, going from 6.12- and 6.69-inches to 6.27- and 6.86-inches, respectively. For 2025, Apple is also expected to bring the larger 6.27-inch display size to its standard ‌iPhone‌ model, while the iPhone 17 Air – replacing the Plus model – is rumored to have a 6.6-inch display, which means it will be larger than the iPhone 17 but smaller than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.

So what’s going to be the differentiator for the Pro series at this point besides having an extra situational camera (telescope) and some silly useless gimmicks like camera control button?
A thinner & lighter wallet to carry around? ;)

Size! Biggest screens on highest-priced phones. "My iPhone is bigger than your iPhone." I'm guessing the 6.27" tie implied in the article will grow a bit more than .27 in the PRO model. Else, let's play count the camera lenses and maybe notice color differentiation.

As expected. Ross Young has said that ProMotion was coming to all iPhone 17 models a while back.

The 17 Pro and Pro Max will very likely have brighter displays this year.

A built in joystick.

They really need to be at 1 GHz on panels now.

My eyes are Apple Eye Pros and they refresh so fast that I can see flickering and lag on all apples devices.

Come on Apple. If you’re going to give me Pro eyes, give me Pro devices to make use of them.

My usage mostly involves scrolling through menus, swiping the air for no reason and rebooting 5000 times a day. My workflow needs faster boot up times.

Regular 17 and 17Air will get A19 and Pro's will get A19Pro soc. Possibly Qualcomm modem in Pro's and lower lines will get in-house Apple modem. I wouldn't rule out software locked features exclusive to the Pro's. Apple will figure out a way to keep Pro models selling even if it's by gimping features on non-pro models

I'll upgrade my 11 to the base 17 if it has AOD. Otherwise I may either buy a 16 Pro on sale (if cheap enough) or try again when the 18 comes out.

At the moment, Apple's attempt at AI doesn't interest me and my phone runs really well on iOS 18 without it.
My parter is still on 11 and said the same thing. I'm in a more difficult situation as I am on 13 mini and I hate anything bigger than that size. I know I will probably have to eventually bite the bullet and upgrade the screen size against my will. But for now, I'm running my 13 mini to the ground.

And the camera button is in the wrong place. It's too damn high.

Maybe read the article before posting.

Has that been rumored? Would really like that to come true.

Apple should bring their fantastic anti-glare nano texture screen option to the iPhone.

How many years have we heard the same story “the next version is going to be groundbreaking?” Same design with the same broken promises. The only thing Cook and company ensures are more emojis, more political wallpaper and bigger more obtrusive camera lenses. The only thing Apple does well is appropriate technology from Samsung.
