once again the lack of features (which should be standard, such as fast usb c) on the base models push people to the pro models. I know some people won't care about the higher specs, but a lot will, and there is no reason why some of this stuff couldn't be on the base 17, but isn't. cynical. jobs never really did that. it was one phone, per year, 2 colours, same features across both.

Jobs has been dead for over a decade. Let it go.

This is how Apple makes money. Sometimes the entry level products have a compelling price but you often have to add a $100 upgrade for higher spec. When you do that, you then say "I might as well go pro for an extra $100". Boom! Apple managed to psych you into spending an extra $200.

I would be worried about initial compatibility with other manufacturers devices (routers, headsets, keyboards, mice,...). I'm interested to see how this will develop. I just got a base 16 a couple of months ago so no worries for me.

Some of these decisions are just price and feature differentiation and are not necessarily cynical. However, I doubt the USB controller that allows for USB 3 speeds is really a high cost item. So you win on that point, I guess. That being said, the base iPhone 17 gets some pretty decent formerly-reserved-for-the-Pro features this year, like the display. It has all the same buttons. I think it's reasonable to have the camera systems differentiate. I'd be hard pressed to find a missing features that will matter to most folks.

Never forget that you're a commentor on a tech rumors forum so you're almost certainly over-indexing on what you perceive people to care about. Almost no one I know isn't "into tech" cares or even know about USB transfer speeds on the phone. So even if Apple is cheeping out in that area, it makes no real-world difference for the vast majority of every day users.

What really surprised me was that Apple was able to implement Bluetooth 6.0 support on the N1 I/O chip, given the Bluetooth 6.0 standard was only finalized in March 2025. The only other phonese I know of with Bluetooth 6.0 support are the Google Pixel 10 models.

Your original post made a vague comment that Apple is “crippling” their iPhones implying they’re all slow. Since the 15 Pro they’ve had 10Gbps speeds.
no.

Iphone 17 and Air are both USB2, it's you who made a comment in bad faith. USB2 in 2025 on devices capable of 4K video IS crippling the device. Now go spew your nonsense somewhere else cause I'm not susceptible to being gaslighted.
