iPhone 17 Lineup Rumored to Feature All-New Slim Model Above Pro Max With 'Major Redesign'

They are actually becoming a laughing stock among loyal customers. I groaned when I read this headline.

The Pro Max was already the customer money milking tier and now they have no ideas, so they just try and add an even higher customer scamming tier on top of the original one.

There is simply zero reasons for such a tier to exist. There wasn't even a valid reason for the Pro line to appear in the first place.

If this happens I'm done with the Apple. I'd be moving to Android and convert fully back to Windows on the computing side. I'd also be recommending all friends and family to do the same.

The X was not transformative in the slightest everything inside was was decades old in terms of tech.

All they did was use it as an excuse to increase the price by £450 in the UK. The greedy Apple with crappy product tiers designed to milk customers stemmed from this product.
Yes, FaceID was years old at that point.... oh... no, it wasn't.

Do your research. Apple purchased a company called PrimeSense which owned the technology behind Face ID.

The same technology was powering the Kinect on Xbox since 2010. So the technology was nearly a decade old by the time it reached the iPhone for use as Face ID. So yes it was many many years old by that point.

The other justification for a massive price jump on the iPhone X was also the OLED screen. Again nothing new, Samsung had OLED screens on phones for nearly a decade prior. Also Samsung was the supplier of the OLED screens that went into the iPhone X so they just sold Apple the same screens they were already using on their own phones.

There, do you feel better now?

Classic response of someone who cannot admit they were wrong.
Yes, I was aware that Kinect was using this before Apple integrated it into a phone. I just don’t think that wasn’t transformative in terms of our use of a handheld device. Yes, the iPhone model X was a new design and a big change in phones in general.

The Apple design philosophy these days seems to be "Everything old is new again." They appear to have run out of ideas. That would be OK if they'd fix the many bugs and inadequacies in their products. That said, I'm more than happy to go back to a slimmer, thinner case (like my old 6), if that's what they mean. Not liking the hard edges on the iPhone and my M3 MacBook.

The slim name is stupid and definitely not real.

This new iPhone is 6.6” so it sits between iPhone Pro and pro max.

My guess is this is the long rumoured “ultra” and like the iPhone X, it’ll first be one model with a larger version coming later.

IMO for it to be a new line it’ll need something better than the Pro. Under display camera or Face ID but doubt they’re ready for next year.

Hate that instead of fixes or improvements on current lines, apples desperate attempt is to just make another more expensive one.

They only know how to up sell all the time.

Awful management

Thinner designs have always been a feature of Apple during Jony Ive's era. So, why does it suddenly warrant another iPhone tier above the Pro Max which itself was a pointless money grab. Really taking their consumers for a ride. Only the idiots defend them.

Apple is planning to launch an all-new iPhone 17 model next year with a "significantly thinner" design, according to The Information. The report says the device could have a higher price tag than the Pro Max model, which currently starts at $1,199, suggesting that the device would become the new highest-end model in the lineup.

The device will allegedly feature a "major redesign" akin to the iPhone X, and this could involve the rear cameras being relocated from the top-left corner of the device to the "top center," along with a narrower Dynamic Island. The device will have between a 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch display size, the report adds. Other potential features mentioned include an aluminum chassis, an A19 chip, and an improved front camera.

As part of this plan, the report says that Apple does not plan to release an iPhone 17 Plus next year, so the lineup would still consist of four models.

This is the third time that a slimmer iPhone 17 model has been rumored this month, following reports from Apple supply chain analyst Jeff Pu and display industry expert Ross Young, who said the device will have a 6.5-inch screen.

The report cautions that Apple is still testing multiple designs for this new iPhone, and potential delays could push the device's release beyond 2025.

Pretty silly that we can get 6 pages of comments about H2 2025 iP17 rumors when iP16 won't even be out for months yet.

The best that could happen to Apple would be if they were forced (e.g. by the EU) to open up iOS to third party hardware suppliers. We would have a dozen "iPhone" minis within weeks plus many other size formats! All with better features than any other real iPhone. Apple's hardware is so last-century.

With all the talk coming out about the 17 series iPhones I guess the 16 will be a holdover and thus underwhelming release so this is pushing me to consider waiting another year until I upgrade.

I usually will get the newest iPhone every year but something about this is fishy.

I don’t know, maybe I’m just finally content with what I have and see no point in spending thousands just keep up anymore. My MacBook and iPad are still fast and do what I need them to do plus run the latest software. My iPhone is a 15PM so it’s not getting outdated anytime soon either.

As much as I would love to have the latest and greatest, Apple really does build their stuff to last for years so it’s just harder to find the need or want to upgrade frequently.

Perhaps if they would do something radical with iPadOS I would rush out to get the new OLED iPad but as it is I’m fine with my old one currently.

We all tend to get there at some point

I hopped off the "latest Apple stuff" train years and years ago and it's been a complete blessing.

Once you get off, you start to realize how absolutely silly and wasteful it always was to be upgrading things so often.

That sounds nice but, looking at the Android phone market where there isn’t one single manufacturer who decides on the model mix, I don’t see any smaller phones. If they thought there was enough of a market, you would think that someone would have made a small phone but it hasn’t happened. I do miss my 12 Mini sometimes.
