I'm curious though, how many people actually like the Orange colour Vs how many just want people to notice they have the new iPhone?
The iPhone isn't a status symbol in the US anymore. Everyone and their mom has one. You could have a iPhone 12 and another could have an iPhone 17 Pro Max and they wouldn't care which generation of iPhone you have because the bubbles are blue. All people here care about is the text message color, which is sad.

Nah I hear you but plenty of people for sure want people to know they have the latest model. Why else would some people upgrade yearly?

I'm curious if this is a good news or not. I had always believed that Apple's strategy releasing 2 'high end' devices in the Air and Pro was to increase the average sale price of an iPhone.

If it's being reported that the regular iPhone as now taking more of the sales then this strategy won't have been successful.

I tell you what, after being a "Pro" guy for years, I am really enjoying the Air. Being an occasional camera user, I don't miss all the cameras. It's so light, I can barely notice the phone in my shorts pocket. I also switched from a Doc Artisan wallet to a MagSafe wallet (by Magbak) and I absolutely love the combo!

Because the resell value doesn't decrease much with iPhones. Hell, the 16 Pro Max is still going for $900+ unlocked on Swappa. Sell that and spend another $200ish and you have the 17 Pro Max. That's a easy and inexpensive upgrade every year. Rinse and repeat every year.

“The iPhone Air is apparently performing slightly ahead of last year's ‌iPhone 16‌ Plus”

At a higher price point that must be considered a win for Apple surely?

The base 17 is seriously good value and I had a hard time choosing between that and the air myself.

👆 This sounds very Tim Cook like.

A very astute comment.

Hmm, my guess is that as Apple’s active user base continues to grow, even if users are upgrading less frequently on average, it still translates to more iPhones sold year on year. Apple excels at playing the long game as always.

They seemed to vastly underestimate (yes a oxymoron) the demand for the regular iPhone 17. Shipping times are still way pushed out and in-store availability is spotty and disappears quickly. Pros/Pro Max and Air are all readily available in most configurations for same day delivery here in the Phoenix area.

Imagine how an iPhone 17 Plus would perform in sales, especially if the price didn’t change. No wonder Apple cut it out this year.

This year would be the first time Apple didn’t hold back on any critical features. In all previous years, Plus got shortchanged, either by having a last gen SoC, lack of ProMotion, or only having 128GB.

You could say the same thing about the two years of the mini. And there has never been a mini "Pro" model, something you can't say about the Plus. It wasn't just about the size why the mini failed.

Know of one company that uses the largest screen size iPhones that bought ten. Not a ton there.

personally I really hope they stick with the air... I freaking love it... battery is totally fine, and it's not really that often I need the better camera. now would I get it if I didn't also have a max.... ah.... yeah I think I actually would now that I've been using it a month. I'd deal with the camera. biggish screen and not a brick. love it.

Can't say I agree because the iPhone 12 mini closely matched the iPhone 12 Pro in specs. The only difference was the base storage at 64GB vs. 128GB. The chip was the same. Same fresh form factor. The mini started with its best foot forward.

The Plus started off immediately with n-1 SoC and notch, which was a huge turn-off. Even iPhone 16 Plus was still playing catch up to the 16 Pro Max in display size and tech.
