Any island or notch ruins the user experience. I just want all display. Willing to deal with a hole punch cutout for FaceTime but that’s it. Been waiting for years to rid of this. I mean can use a little widget that looks like that but either remove FaceID or put it under the display. I have to touch the right button every time I use my iPhone why can’t it just have TouchID on it???

While the widget has some usefulness, permanently ruining the display sucks for FaceID. What is 100x worse is what they did to the MacBooks. Make no mistake about it, these elements don’t just ruin the user experience, they’re included so everyone knows you’re using an iPhone or MacBook. It’s marketing! Not meant for our convenience just meant to ensure everyone else knows that it is indeed an Apple product. I rather them write Apple on the thing than ruin the user display interface. It should be sacred space.

I'll take it. I most likely plan on upgrading anyway from my 14 Pro Max. 3 years is about my timeline for a new device so anything to change the look and function further solidifies my purchase.

Here's a wild idea... I always liked the LED notifications on samsungs / androids back in the day. They should do a custom color specific LED ring around the DI as an alternative to the always on display. It can pulse or animate like it did back then. I never intend to use the always on display but this would be cool to try out.

If Dynamic Island goes all the way back to 2022, why does the headline say "iPhone 17 May See 'Significant' Dynamic Island Changes"? These significant changes in user interface can't be applied to the 14 Pro with the same dynamic island?
You know they’ll come up with some nonsense explaining why the original Dynamic Island iPhone can’t do it. Then we will have the customary Federighi with YouTube influencer hairsplaining as to why. In short, because upgrade time, because money, because small iterations for the “mature” product aren’t decreasing years between average device upgrades.

In all seriousness, iOS 26 is light on features and blinding in design. Hopefully the .1 releases will have some surprises. They wanted to avoid the Siri and Apple Intelligence vapourware by showing “available later” features, but I wonder if the version of Liquid Glass demoed will actually reach consumers in September without becoming Gaussian Glass.

The Dynamic Island is underdeveloped and could be so much more with some imagination. I’d love to see it on the Mac sooner than later. I love it personally and interact with it multiple times a day.

As sea levels rise, the dynamic island is at risk of completely disappearing!

At that point, we will all prefer having no island at all (again, like we used to).

:D

What are they talking about? There won’t be a Dynamic Island within a few years.
Yes there will. Samsung is dropping their under screen camera because the image quality is worse, so even when Apple goes to a holepunch screen with underscreen Face ID, the Dynamic Island will still work.

I like the Dynamic Island and use it almost every day.

I really haven't found Dynamic Island useful. It's more a notification that blocks information like 5G in showing it. I tap on it and instead of doing anything in the island, or very little, the app the island is showing opens. I don't need Dynamic Island for that
You can long press the Dynamic Island to get more info on what its displaying without going to the app; the flashlight Dynamic Island control is particularly cool.

Dynamic Island from a holepunch screen wouldn't even block the 5G icon.

I never liked the idea of Dynamic Island. I just hope that it will bring something new to the iPhone range.

They are preparing for the Fold which won’t have Face ID but still front cameras (likely punch-hole) on both screens, and maybe for whatever they’ll do on the 20th anniversary iPhone. But I don’t see the Dynamic Island going away anytime soon, unfortunately.

If they are making it more prominent, I might stay with notch iPhones for a while longer.

They may introduce those changes with iPhone 17 series and keep it only for that lineup, or they may include those changes as a future iOS update but I'd bet only for 15/16 series.

To be completely honest, if Apple has kept the pace and momentum of the early iPhone days, we wouldn't even talk about some sort of a dynamic island or a notch by now. It would have been an edge to edge screen without cutouts 3 years ago at least.
Then why hasn't anyone else implemented an underscreen camera which doesn't have worse image quality compared to a regular camera? That's why the Samsung Fold 7 is dropping its inside underscreen camera which was on the Fold 6, despite it arguable looking worse with a camera on one side.

I love the dynamic island, they turned a big ol notch into something useful, at least for me. Music, timers, calls, the flighty app, maps (maps on that is magical). Would I like it to be smaller? Yea sure. Do I care if it isn't smaller next year? No not at all. What else do I need displayed with a couple millimeters of screen space saved? I seriously can't think of anything. It won't make that big a difference unless the thing is hidden completely. All I pray is that they at least dont hide the selfie camera because we all know how much that can degrade camera quality. Also for the love of everything that is good PLEASE bring a fun color to the 17 Pro, preferably a cooler shade such as blue or green (or the amazing purple of the 14 pro)

The most significant change I am only looking forward to is when the Dynamic Island is finally gone.
agree. this isn't a "feature" anymore. it's an excuse to not go full screen. i'm sticking with my iP12 Pro until this gimmick is gone.

We're consumers, that shouldn't be our problem. Apple was always about being better than their competitors, they should figure it out, just like they figured things out with the first few generations of the iPhone.

Have you tried long pressing?

Apple, just like Samsung, have figured out that it isn't yet possible because shooting through pixels, pixels which have to look just like the rest of the screen when not using the camera, degrades image quality.

Apple used to be about blowing our minds with what we thought was and wasn’t possible, I want that Apple back.
