Currently I am on my iPhone 16P and want to upgrade to either to a 17P or 17PM.

The 16P is quite small to me and as I wear slightly relaxed or loose jeans it often tumbles around my pocket and often the phone would sit sideways.

For those of you who own a 17PM, please tell me on how well it fits in the pocket. Is it too snug or is it really hard to pull in and out of the pocket?

I also used to have the S25 ultra, but with that, the Display was slightly more narrow as the iPhone displays tend to be more wider.

Anyways, I will eventually go to my local Apple reseller store and maybe I'll ask them to let me hold one just to see if the size would be right.

I can only say in general that the 17PM is not at all too large for me. I thought it may be, as I was coming from a 15 Pro, but I now think the size is just right. I've only had it for a month, so given that it's summertime, I haven't had the chance to put it in my jeans pocket etc., for the season I carry it in a small bag I use for my wallet, carkeys etc.
When the clothing is less loose come Autumn, I'll see how it feels like, but my overall impression is that it is surprisingly not-big for what I was expecting.

I wear jeans year around and its not that the phone does not fit the front pockets its that getting my oversized hands in the pocket to fetch a large phone no PM for me and I see a lot of people with them in their back pocket which amazes me the screen can survive .

The 17 Pro Max is slightly bigger than a S25 Ultra (taller and wider), but the big one is weight, the S25 Ultra weighed 218g while 17 PM is 233g, so do check if you will be happy with the weight.

Personally very happy with my 17 Pro Max, if anything I think Apple can shave off a bit more of the bezel and grow the screen slightly to around 7.2inch.

I’m a woman with small hands and wear tight fitting jeans and have no issues putting my phone inside and taking it out of the front pocket of my jeans. I also have no issues with handling my phone either with one or two hands. I also do not use a case 99% of the time. I’m currently rocking a clear skin that covers the back and sides of the phone and use a Süti phoneback for the back of my phone when I leave the house. I could never use any phone smaller than the Pro Max phones.

Have you ever held a Google Pixel 10 Pro XL? Now that phone was heavy as I had one as well especially with a case on it. I think that was the heaviest phone I ever owned. And its 232g. Just 1gram less heavier than the 17PM.

My best bet is to hold one at an Apple store before making the jump.

I have both, Pixel 10 Pro XL and 17 Pro Max. iPhone is a little bit wider, but they feel similar.

Unfortunately we do not get Google Pixels here in South Africa officially, so I’ve never held a Pixel 10 Pro XL. Another thing to consider is the balance of the weight as sometimes 2 phones can weigh roughly the same but the way the weight is distributed throughout the top and bottom of the device can create significant difference in feel and overall ergonomics, although the 17 Pro Max is 233g the weight doesn’t feel that much more than my 15 Pro Max because the 17 distributes the weight better.

Hoping you do like the 17 Pro Max when you try it, it is a great device but it needs to suit you 👌

iPhone 17PM has been my favorite iPhone since the 4. I switched to this from a 14Pro and am loving the real estate the screen offers (& battery life!). I don’t have problems fitting it into pant or jacket pockets and it’s never been too snug or too loose. I use a clear MagSafe case for it and it’s survived drops.

I bought this blindly having never even held the PM version of the iPhone but I’d recommend looking in store first. The space on the screen is really nice for websites and apps though.

I had a 17 PM and I returned it. It was way too heavy and bulky for me. Bothered me so much that I did not want to carry it around without a bag. Went back to my aging 11 and now waiting for Air 2.

I get why people want a large phone for some it is the means by which they watch shows and movies but I did not claw my way up the food chain to watch a movie on a 6 or 7 inch screen I went out and bought a 65 inch TV way more enjoyable and less eye strain.

It's slightly smaller than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (by a couple millimeters). Which I had no problems with, but with big hands a smaller phone is going to be more awkward. It's heavier but I bought a bulky case.

For handling one in real time, the local Apple stores are quite nice, if not electronics stores authorized to sell them that might be closer. Usually get decent help from people who know the products...

I had the S25 Ultra as well, but on the iPhone, its the same size as the S25 Ultra which both are 6.9 inches.

However, the iPhone has a wider screen as opposed to the S25 Ultra, and this is why the S25 Ultra was much easier to take out of my pocket.

I really wish Apple would make the Pro models at 6.6 inches and just leave the Pro Max models at 6.9 inches. Because choosing between the 17 Pro which is 6.3 inches and the Pro Max which is 6.9, is a really tough decision to make. In terms of sizes, this is a really huge gap. I would think that there should be at least a minimum of 6.6 inches which would be the sweet spot for the average user.

I don’t think people who buy the likes of a 17 Pro Max are lacking in terms of having a large TV, I have a 65inch TV and an iPad Pro, but I love having a large screened phone, always have.
Think it just comes down to user preference.

I have an iPhone 16 Plus, which has practically the same dimensions but it’s a bit lighter. Size-wise it’s totally fine. The only slight issue I’ve come across is that it’s slightly more uncomfortable to take pictures single-handedly than the iPhone Xʀ I came from (regular 16 size).

It’s fine in the pocket for me, no issues with that at all. It does represent a difference vs the Xʀ (a considerable one), but nothing that bothers me.

I wouldn’t consider this a factor not to make the upgrade.

Very true! In actual fact one of the reasons I liked iPhone when I transitioned from Android (had a Galaxy Note8 and Huawei P30 Pro at the time) to iOS (iPhone Xs Max), was the fact that Apple had not made the phones too narrow, they still kept them slightly wider, more so on the Max/Pro Max phones.

To be quite honest and this is just my opinion, that huge phones don't appear as elegant. Its like holding a huge slab of brick to the ear..

Since I don't watch movies or play games on my phones, I think I will give the 17 Pro a try.

I'm just afraid that the pocket scenario will not work out for the PM...Just don't want to risk it.
