Cant wait for the iPhone 18 Pro Max having metal battery box upgrade.

Pssh, I'm waiting on the iPhone 21 Pro, with no notch and 1 version ahead of the iPhone 20 Pro to work out all the kinks!

Some day, an amazing innovation will happen: users will be able to pop the backs of their phones off and replace the battery without any special connections or trouble! Just slide the old out, slide the new in!
Ha Ha. Sounds like you think the inefficiencies of the very old way make sense today; they do not. Personally I think relatively waterproof phones are great.
As posted years ago:

User-removable batteries are flat stupid from a cell phone design engineering standpoint. There are reasons that iPhones dumped that idea long ago:

-dirt, water entry;

-tolerances to suit the inevitable 3rd-party battery suppliers;

-repairs needed thanks to the inevitable crap 3rd-party battery suppliers;

-safety issues thanks to the inevitable crap 3rd-party battery suppliers;

-extra volume and weight needed for modular battery access; and needed in a single large rectangular spot;

-added expense/weight building a module to accept removable batteries and the necessary complex electrical connection;

-existence of readily available third-party add-ons for those customers who need additional battery without forcing all customers to accept the downsides of removable batteries.

Bottom line is that user-removable batteries are simply less-good design.

Could there not be an environmental case made for swappable batteries? One could be on the charger using power at the time of day most optimal instead of needing to charge the one in the phone itself on demand.

This thread is starting to become so boring, every year the rumour mill keeps stating the battery is becoming easier to remove & replace.

How about Apple focuses on giving the entire iphone the long awaited design overhaul it so badly needs, with tech changes that matter.

For myself there is no need to buy into the same phone, it’s time for change.

i just need a battery that charges itself when it is running low so I don’t have to think about it.
