I've never quite understood the draw of a feature like this, other than for a minute it can be cool to show someone one phone charging another, if they've never seen it. A battery of any sort, MagSafe or other, does an immensely better job at this task. I already have to charge my 15 Pro twice a day, a dumb parlor trick feature like this should be left to Samsung.

I could see it being useful for recharging the Airpods case on the go.

If it's enabled, and you never use it, why do you care? Just enable it and let people use, or not use it, as they wish.

Sounds like an extremely efficient way to drain your phones battery while also getting the absolute bare minimum of charge on another device. Not very green apple. I don't think Ma Nature would approve.

Reverse charging is not a needed or must have feature. Apple 🍎 has taken this long to only have a unconfirmed rumor means they don’t think it’s a needed feature either.

Apples idea of "innovation"......let's do something 5 years after it's already been accomplished.
Surely there is someone at Apple responsible for combing through other phone model specs for features the iPhone doesn't have and marks them as possible new "innovations" for the iPhone. I mean, when you can no longer innovate, you copy.

Not sure how they could handle it due to the fact that iPhone and AirPods magnets have the same polarities. Maybe use electro magnets ?

Will it help me get my EV home? Every little bit counts when it is 8 degrees here….

IDK that I'd want my iPhone to charge anything else, but it might be cool to wirelessly charge my iPhone from my MacBook or iPad.

Somewhat off topic, but the mention of MagSafe just got me thinking - if this iPhone 17 Pro is moving to a unibody aluminum design (with supposed glass window/housing for cameras and antennas), I wonder how usual MagSafe would work? Figured glass back was always there for that reason, but maybe it could work with aluminum?

My Xperia 1V look far batter than my iPhone 15 PM. Xperia has even a REAL zoom objective and doesn't look bulgy at all.

Why wouldn’t a USB-C version of the MagSafe battery pack be a day one launch with the iPhone 15 series? It just doesn’t make sense why it just disappears and takes 19 years to re-release with a new port

Am I really going to be in a position where I need to charge my airpods CASE (not even the airpods themselves) where this would be useful? How long would it take to charge?

Yet another gimmick to act like they are innovating. I cannot think of a single time I have ever had the need or knew anyone that had the need to use reverse wireless charging for anything.

Technically, all the iPhones with MagSafe have the capability to do reverse wireless charging. They reverse wireless charge Apple’s MagSafe battery pack when your phone is plugged in. I’m sure it’s more complex than that, but it makes you wonder if Apple can just enable it with a software update.
Apple absolutely could enable it with a software update as it is just simple reverse wireless charging.
The problem is, even with just the battery pack, it’s very slow. Which… isn’t particularly helpful in any of the emergency situations where I could see this coming in use.
Needing to charge your Apple Watch or AirPods and letting it take three hours and your iPhones juice just… Has never made sense to me.
A battery pack is better in literally every conceivable way.

I hope the final product does not have a big empty space. The layout and larger area are fine if the space is utilized.
I like the mock-ups with a small screen there.

For the record:
To ME everyone who actually thinks the iPhone 17 will look like that is a dmbss, because the flash location is extremely weird. Who was asking for more shadows? Because that’s what you get. More shadows in photos and videos.

So, IF the iPhone doesn’t look like this, you’ve heard here first why.
Otherwise, color me foolish and very very wrong.

I thought this works too. Just connected my Aura ring to my iPhone and it appears to be charging. Assume the Apple Watch would be charged too but like someone said, it's not a generally useful feature.

It doesn’t make sense to me. My iPhone is usually the device that needs charging unless they’re going to come out with some crazy high capacity phone battery technology.

Reverse charging for just boosting your Apple Watch or Airpods case could be useful in a limited number of scenarios - but not really something I have been missing a lot
The problem with apple watch is it uses a separate non-usb-c cable for charging. Being able to reverse wireless charge an Apple Watch would finally give us 'one cable to rule them all'.

because that battery pack was absolute garbage.

Yes it could actually give you the option to charge your phone (in the office, hotel etc.) with USB-C and at the same time charge your watch and not have to bring more than the USB-C

Will be great if the 17 Pro models have this feature. Samsung devices have had this for a long time. Quite useful and can help in charging devices like the watch if urgent battery charging is required.

Got this on my Galaxy. Can't say I ever used this feature besides initially trying it out. Way too slow to charge and I don't gain anything by draining my main device

Doesn't that phone and also the USB-C iPhones support charging other devices from the USB port? I agree, draining one's phone seems counter-productive, but if one were to do it, it seems doing it via wire would be vastly superior since you'd really want to minimize heat and maximize efficiency.
