Me and my GF bought each a iPhone 17 Pro and are having problems connecting them to CarPlay via cable. Her phone works in her car, but neither phone works in my car. When trying to connect them in my car nothing happens. The phone is charging, but no connection to CarPlay. We tried the same cable that worked in her car in my car, but without any luck.

Anyone else having Iphone 17 Pro CarPlay problems? Any know fix?

My car has always worked with previous phones without any problems.

just thinking out loud (!): your car has a USB-A socket, your GF's car a USB-C socket and you use USB-A to USB-C convertor in your car, a convertor that maybe only supports charging?

I guess my first question would be what phone models worked well in this same car previously? Or perhaps more specifically, did they all have Lightning ports before? If this is your first USB-C iPhone, then the cable in use may be the culprit, as odd as that may seem given the cable you are trying works in her car. I use a Pioneer head unit in my vehicle that supports CarPlay. The Pioneer only has USB-A for ports with a cable run out. I use a short USB-C to USB-A cable made by CableCreation that works well here. But I'm also using an iPhone 15 Pro.

If you can provide more specifics (what model car and what exact cable brand you are using), that may be of help. As always, make sure the iPhones and the car's head unit itself are fully updated.

EDIT: BBDDVV makes a very good point.. some of these cables that go from A to C do only support charging. So cable choice is very important. Here's the Amazon listing for the one I bought. Take note of this part in the description: "Data Cord".

We both had lightning phones before. Both our cars have USB A ports. My car is a Porsche Panamera and her car is a French DS 7. Her cable works in her car, but not in mine. So I guess it supports data transfer as well. Can it be a setting I missed. The car doesn’t even turn up in the CarPlay setting on the phone.

not sure if this would help for you, but it fixed it at least for one Reddit user:
"Try just clicking into the “Phone” menu on the infotainment system. Weird, but it seems to prompt the system to refresh the Bluetooth and wired connections.
My 2018 Macan was doing the same thing - wouldn’t pick up CarPlay when plugged in."

At least it's an easy/quick thing to try? 🤞

another one from here on MR:
"What is your Wired Accessory security setting? My CarPlay also wouldn't connect this morning until I changed the setting to "Always connect when unlocked". I had it on Ask for New Accessories but for some reason that wasn't enough to trigger the authentication."?

Yep, mine was the same. The “ask” flashed on the screen for about half sec but couldn’t press it. Set to always and was fine.

Another thing to check is how many phones are saved in your car's head unit for use with CarPlay. I believe some cars have a limit on how many phones they will connect to. You may need to go in and delete your old phones to free up "space" for your new phones.

I've had similar issues with Bluetooth before, and had to delete old phones in order to allow new phones to connect.
