why did apple move the shutter button farther into the screen, and now where the shutter used to be we have the 'modes' swiper. The number of times i've switched mode instead of taking a picture is too high. more evidence of degradation of iphone interface. The camera app is a design disaster.

In the past I posted about how Apple will sell you an iPhone without an actual iPhone. These are the first signs of that path.

iPhone 17 Pro models:

- Nobody talks about how iOS26 generate more typos because of faulty registering touches.

- Nobody talking about the speakers being considerably weaker than previous gens!

Those 2 drive me nuts, especially the keyboard. In 18 it seemed like it was finally working right again, and then they broke it in iOS 26

I wonder how the apple cucks will try to justify this one
What’s to justify? “Multi-trillion dollar company does a thing” is a “dog bites man” story. :)

I enjoyed it more when they removed a camera from the iPad Pro. Folks that have long said that iPads shouldn’t have cameras because no one uses them to take pictures had to figure out SOME way to display their displeasure at the camera being removed while simultaneously, indicating that THEY would never them, of course. THAT was delightful!

Good thing you weren’t around when they stopped including a home buttons on iPhones. I wonder if there’s anyone that never learned how to do the swipe up?

I am sorry , but if it took the entire world this long to figure it out the feature was not accidentally omitted it was just discontinued due to lack of use. This seems to be apple doing a Tesla oh you all did not use that feature and it cost us how much to make it work with every new pipeline, nah nix it our data shows like 5 people use it.
Or it’s proof that the fact that it automatically switched on with just a tiny icon indicating it’s working the users never realised they were using it because they simply trust their device.

iPhone 17 Pro models:

- Nobody talks about #Shadowgate? Every picture taken has a big shadow behind the subject due to the repositioning of the flash.

- Nobody talks about how iOS26 generate more typos because of faulty registering touches.

- Nobody talking about the bottom speaker emitting static noises when plugged into USBC charger.

- Nobody talking about the speakers being considerably weaker than previous gens!

I haven’t noticed any of these issues. I hope it’s not one of those things that I’ll now notice since I’ll be looking for it. I’ll probably never notice the first though since I can’t remember the last time I used the flash.

Cook loves to save money

Would guess this is a bug. This is computational photography and it should be possible to add this.

They have been recycling the same drip drip phone for about 4 generations now.
And who says they need to come up with a brand new fresh design for a thing which has been done to death multiple times every year already? It's a bloody square with a screen, logic board, battery, and optics. It needs to be reliable. I'd rather they slowed down and stopped trying to force these new "updates" that break more things than they fix.

not sure what you are talking about. been using iphone since 3gs
You could adjust to that but can’t adjust to this? Or, are you saying you just haven’t adjusted yet and, in a couple months, it’ll not be an issue for you anymore?

I could believe it. Then again, when looking at the example photo, it would not surprise me to find out that they looked at the massive number of public photographs where people are sharing the metadata and realized that there were, like 1,000 images out there, and 80% of those were created by Apple when testing the feature.

When I read “Low light portraits”, I was thinking candlelit images. The example showed a pitch black image and the the resulting portrait from that must be pretty grainy.

Non-issue with low light photography giving much better results than anything with flash use.

- Nobody talks about how iOS26 generate more typos because of faulty registering touches.
That’s documented to be introduced in iOS 18.4 and possibly earlier. It’s a keyboard bug.

- Nobody talking about the bottom speaker emitting static noises when plugged into USBC charger.
It does? I have yet to plug a USB-C charger in. #MagsafeandWirelessCarPlay

They’re a hell of a lot louder than the 12 Pro Max I just came from. You’d have to be deaf to not be able to hear it. My speaker volume doesn’t go above 60% on the 17 Pro.

So basically either not enough people use the features you claim everyone should be talking about or you’re attributing issues to it, not everyone thinks it has.

It took this long for most people to notice because nobody is using it. Especially actual photographers. And I’m just talking about portrait mode in general. To me it still looks bad and is more of a gimmick.

The likely reason the MAX wasn't mentioned at the Apple Event 2025 (probably for the first time) is this. They probably don't want it widely known that the premium model ships with cheap speakers and a camera with reduced functionality.
However, personally I don't care much about the camera, so I just want them to fix the ugly noise coming from the speaker while charging as soon as possible.

I have really noticed the shadows, I thought it was just me not positioning the camera correctly. And regarding touch and typing—I have always found it to be irksome. I try to touch type from memory of the qwerty layout (using 2 fingers on the phone keyboard—one for the left-hand side and the other for the right), and it mostly works well, but some keys always seem to misregister, but I think that’s my tactile memory from using a full size keyboard all day.

Now — question— has anyone else come across a bug in the so-called ‘clean up’ feature, where it RANDOMLY pixelates a selection by applying the ‘safety feature?’ I have NO safety features engaged! But this happens every few photos.
Apple support says there’s no problem…

I don’t like the mode swipe at all. I thought it would be easier to use and less intrusive, but it’s slow to select, and the direction one should swipe isn’t apparent until you start—meaning it takes longer to do.

I think that with really strong light it can look decent. Obviously, it doesn’t look like a real bokeh or depth of field effect. And the edge detection, even with brilliant sunlight, is STILL subpar. If I take a photo of someone, the person’s ears will be blurred if more than a smidge of depth is selected. And even though you can select the person if the photo is ‘closed’ (not being edited), there’s no way to do this in the photo app so that you can then just apply the depth effect to the background! It’s a simple step…yet somehow eludes this trillion dollar company with leading software and UI designers and engineers!
