So the company ordered a bunch if iPhone 17 Pro Max after testing the quality of units we noticed that the had upper part of the screen when pressed with a thumb lightly makes cracking noises as it is not assembled firmly it kind of moves. You can feel and hear it when inspecting closely.

Just a warning to check your iphone everyone and exchange or return it.

Apple is cutting corners on QC on all products.

Info: The screen is not loose in a way that you can see, but when pressing with a bit pressure you definitely feel a bit of movement touching components underneath and noise. Older iPhones do not have this and the screen is rock solid.

Got a replacement for some iPhone 17 Pro Max and when slightly pressing in the middle of the screen you can hear a clicking noise, it disappears after a while when resting and pressing it again after ten minutes it makes a crack/click noise again.

You cannot see the screen move but it definitely clicks when pressed. Its the second phone.

Pretty sure this might be widespread.

One has to wonder if these issued devices still feature their IP68 rating intact...

Happened to my release day Pro Max which worsened with time. Got a replacement yesterday which is even worse.

It occurs about an inch from the top of the phone in the middle/left part of the screen.

What is your next move? Its exact that spot. It disappears for a few seconds than comes back and will be worse.

Going to try another replacement. My coworker got the exact same phone on launch day as well. We both tried replicating this on all 3 phones and his was the only one without this issue. I’m more worried about this getting worse in the long term. I’ve had every iPhone since the original and this is the first one with this issue. The only other time I had a phone replaced was the 11 Pro Max which had a yellow tinted screen.

So you have one that does not make a click noise?

My experience when testing it after few presses it begins to click. When it does it will continue to click, even if it seems to disappear for few minutes it will do it again later, and yes the clicking gets worse, cause something is loose and well glued.

We had launch day units too and replacements.

Previous phones like 13/14 Pros were rock solid even with very hard presses.

Yeah 1/3 did not make the click noise.

I just got another replacement and this one does not make the noise. Also the glass in the back is flush with the aluminum, unlike the other two.

Do you have a picture what you mean with flush?

I can try to take a picture later but one side is not flush, where you can very easily feel it with your finger. Not a big deal but noticed my replacement doesn’t have that either.

I've just realised what you mean. There is indeed a very faint click when pressure is applied to a certain point on the screen, that goes away for a bit, then 'resets' and happens again. I thought you meant something much more noticeable and worrying than that!

I've had this with pretty much every iPhone I've ever owned (which is almost every generation): pressing the screen at in certain positions will cause a barely audible (and completely inaudible unless you hold it up to your ear) click because of glue, internal components… whatever.

My old 15 Pro Max does the same thing towards the bottom of the screen, but actually 'worse' in that it's more of a light clunk, and it happens every time. Never even noticed it in the two years that I used it.

Don't worry about it.

I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max and excessively pressing it does not make this sound anywhere.

Could you make a video where we can see and hear the issue?
The units are returned will make a video when possible. For now this is the reference spot where if you press slightly firmly it will click.

Mine only does it if I actually pinch the phone between the screen and back and squeeze firmly, rather than just pressing the screen. And if I squeeze it at the bottom center of the camera plateau, it clicks gently literally every time. Presumably you're getting the same.

Just feels like expected behaviour when applying pressure to a screen with dense electronics directly behind it to me. 🤷‍♂️
