"40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max"

I'm confused; is Apple trying to do their own thing again rather than follow the USB-C PD specifications?
No. It's all in the USB-C PD specifications.

I believe it's one of two currently available chargers that implements USB PD 3.2 AVS, though Apple's charger does not support PPS.

It looks like some third party chargers advertise the peak power but don't mention that they reduce maximum power after hitting some thermal limit, so this seems to be more honest since the sustainable power is in the name of the product. (ChargerLab's load test of Apple's adapters showed that it could sustain the 60W for about 20 minutes before getting throttled, and it can go back up to 60W again after it cools off.)

Trying to understand the MagSafe testing. Which MagSafe version did they test? The 15W version or the 25W version? What charing brick did they use with the MagSafe? The rest of the testing was straightforward but this section wasn't for me at least...

I am also not happy with this 'dynamic'. Why can't they just say it's USB-PD 3.2? Then at least you could ask Siri.

Anker 40W with the two USB-C ports for like $22 is still best for me. Small, able to charge a couple phones, etc.

I'll just continue to charge my 17PM on my MagSafe, the original 15W I think, overnight, every night...

How do I view remaining charging time?

I simply use a iPad Pro 20watt brick to change my 17 pro max. Sweet spot I think in daily/overnight charging. Trying out the 80% limit as well

It's because it can charge things other than a phone. You can also use to charge a MacBook, for example.
For what? 2 seconds at 60W before it throttles? The MacBook comes with a proper charger already and Amazon is full of tiny GaN chargers for $10 that will charge your MacBook slower if you want.

It's a shame that Apple forces you to buy that one and you cannot purchase those alternative products.

Oh wait, you can purchase those alternative products :D Not my cup of tea either but I'm sure there are some people who would find it useful.

Good video. Nice to know about the charging speeds. Might buy the new 40w dynamic power adapter, if it is made available in my country.

Still confused. So if I have the bigger macbook pro chargers I won't charge faster with the new 40W charger ?

These charging speeds are absolutely laughable, especially if you look at the competition. What is even worse is that the fastest charging speeds the iPhone can reach are only sustained for a very short period of time. In best cases up until 50% then everything goes downhill and the charging speed becomes pathetic. The new cooling system in the new iPhones barely improved the charging situation.

But I do worry about what those higher charging speeds will do to the usable life of the battery on many Android phones. Especially that super fast charging on the OnePlus phones.
