Yeah reverse wireless charging is dumb. You know what is less convenient than one device being out of commission when charging? Having two devices out of commission when charging!

Google showed enough smarts to remove it from the P10 line. They're the data company - they probably had the telemetry stats to show nobody used reverse wireless because it's dumb.
phones have big batteries. watches and aid pods have small batteries that charge quickly... I can think of a ton of situations where I would use this and it would be a lifesaver....

Have you ever travelled and forgot your device-specific watch charger? Just one reason phone->watch charging would be handy. Or Airpods that didn't charge in the case (when they should've) and you need a good quick bump to use them for a call.
Yup, happened to me like 8 years or so ago, left my puck at home so went into a best buy and voila, had an extra charger.
Have you ever looked at the back of the watch? And the puck? How will a watch charge from a flat surface? Hint: it won’t

Honestly, reverse wireless charging would be the one thing that makes me forgive all the other questionable choices about this phone (Aluminum, camera bump, TechWoven)

Aluminium is actually good given it will be the body of the phone rather than the sides, it will feel like holding a small Mac imo.

Techwoven is a false rumour, Apple hasn’t registered it as a trademark anywhere for example, the cases also clearly look like knockoffs.

I know camera bumps are annoying, but I do think it’s being done to squeeze in a larger periscope so they’ll be some upsides.

iPhones meant to support reverse wireless charging since iPhone 11 Pro:

iPhone 12 as well:

iPhone 13:

iPhone 15:

Reverse wireless charging in iPhone 17 Pro is just an another episode in this series. And you know what? One day it will probably become a reality, regardless of the rumors 😅

Can it charge another iPhone? Does it works with a case? What if I put my hand on it?

They don’t seem to be adding much this year, and with Apple Intelligence on life support, they need to add something to get people to buy it. If there was a year to do it, it’s now.

I slapped my old MagSafe battery onto my iPhone 16 Pro earlier today, just to report back now, that the reverse charging feature was never removed. It’s still fully capable of charging that thing up albeit very slowly.

Will be useful to have in certain situations. Hopefully Apple will bring it. Not expecting charging speeds to be great and also expecting heat to build up quickly.
