Apple should just skip 17 and 18 and call it iPhone 19 so it will be using the same number like in A19 and A19 Pro...

The only time that the name and SoC of the iPhone used the same number was back in iPhone 4 and A4... It was rumored that the 5th release was going to be called iPhone 5 but Apple called it iPhone 4s instead...

If there is ever a time to bring back naming consistency, then it should be the 2025 lineup...

Most iPhone shoppers probably don't care about or pay much attention to SoC numbers but there have been a few other recent "inconsistencies" with the chips.

Examples:

The iPhone 13 and 13 mini A15 had 4-core GPU while the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max chip was 5-core GPU yet was still labeled A15.

The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus had the 5-core GPU A15 chip while the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max had an A16 chip (not an A15 Pro or A16 Pro chip).

The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus had an A16 chip while the 15 Pro and Pro Max had an A17 Pro chip (there was no "regular" A17 chip).

Nah, they should call it the iPhone 9, because they're currently off. Or at least skip a year and not release a new phone.

All I know is that due to the mixed 16 Pro reviews, they would need to give it everything to the 17 Pro or even 17 Ultra.

Like they said before "the biggest leap since the iPhone X".
