Actually, that was after most people used it and realized how compromised and half baked it is.
Don’t worry, Apple will release a low cost model so you can stop feeling upset.

I had a very high bar and Apple rocketed over it. The past year has been filled with substantial updates, especially VisionOS 26. I use mine all the time, just used it for about 6-7 hours over 2 days while riding as a passenger in a car while my wife was driving.

If you wanted a high res oculus clone or if you’ve tried it for 10 minutes in a demo, I could see how you would assume it’s half baked or lame. If you went into it with an open mind like I did, you’d realize it’s essentially a 3d ipad strapped to your face. And it’s superb at what it does. Literally the only device I’ve ever used that I could see replacing smartphones for me (if smaller/cellular/battery improvements/etc).

Open your phone and or iPad and look at your top 10 most used apps. Those are the “killer apps” for Vision Pro. Those, and Mac Virtual Display make the device a must have at some price point. That price is different for everyone, and once it’s below $2k it’s going to blow up.

“Ha ha, that’s why your new iPhone is aluminum and my iPhone is titanium, ha ha”

I'm curious how many people will now complain that the phone with a larger bump doesn't rock any more on a table. And therefore TC needs to be fired.
Well, we'll see about that. Current mockups of the "pro" and the air look like the cameras will stick out enough that they could still rock. And the normal iPhone's camera only has the camera lump on one side only.

curious how apple plans to spin this “downgrade”
"downgrade" is subjective tbh, and while I liked the stainless steel and especially the titanium (unfortunately didn't upgrade to any phone that had it) it makes more sense as it will make it cheaper for them, make it easier to recycle, make the phone a little bit lighter again. not to mention most titanium comes from other countries that might not have the best of relations to the western world. so kind of makes sense?

It never made a lot of sense to have ultra-premium materials on devices that will be obsolete within 5 years; that a lot of people put inside of a case, that for most people the premium-ness comes simply from feeling "metallic", and that become heavier by the usage of those materials.

A good grade of aluminium has always been enough, just like it is enough for the MacBook Pros and most of the lineup.

Do not take Titanium away from the Apple Watch Ultra though, I beg. It's more useful there.

Since I always buy a plastic case for my phone I would be okay with a plastic or aluminium body designed to last ~36 months. Titanium or stainless steel would be a waste for me. It's not like I will keep the device to many years and hand it down to my grandchildren - like a pocket watch from years gone by. Sure others don't want a case and would want a fancy body. There is room in the market place for both a nice pricey body and cheap body.
