An iPhone 17 announcement is a dead cert for September 2025 – Apple has already sent out invites for an "Awe dropping" event on Tuesday, September 9 at the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California. The timing follows Apple's trend of introducing new iPhone models annually in the fall.

At the event, Apple is expected to unveil its new-generation iPhone 17, an all-new ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, and high-end iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models.

Going on previous years, here's when we expect the new devices to be available for pre-order and when they will be officially released:
  • Pre-orders: Friday, September 12
  • Release date: Friday, September 19

iPhone 17: What to Expect

The iPhone 17 series is anticipated to bring a host of new features and enhancements. Here are just a few of the changes that we are expecting:
  • Display size for the regular iPhone 17 will be 6.3 inches, up from 6.1 inches.
  • 120 Hz ProMotion displays for all models.
  • Introduction of a super‑thin "Air" variant, replacing Plus model.
  • Pro models will adopt a half‑glass, half‑aluminum chassis and a redesigned horizontal camera bump.
  • Apple will roll out its first in‑house 5G modem chip in the iPhone 17 Air, while all models will include Wi‑Fi 7 support.
  • Camera improvements: 24MP front selfie camera across the lineup, while the Pro models could get three 48MP rear cameras, 8× optical zoom, and potentially 8K video support.
  • Higher memory: Pro and Air variants to include 12GB RAM, while the standard model remains at 8GB.
  • Battery updates supporting up to 35W wired and Qi2 25W wireless charging support.
  • Thermal system upgrade in Pro models for more sustained performance.
Apart from the ‌iPhone 17‌ series, Apple's fall event this year is also expected to see the announcement of the Apple Watch SE 3, Apple Watch Series 11, and Apple Watch Ultra 3.

I haven't been following the past few years... is it likely that the price of the 16 will drop as of the announcement? Any chance of it being free with a trade-in or some other deal at T-Mobile? My iPhone 12 is falling apart and I need something new real soon. Thanks.

Apple can add all the camera improvements they want, but I'd love to see them invest a lot more in AI-assisted photo and video editing. It feels like are targeting technophiles and have lost touch with creatives.

Forget the long delays of consulting chatGPT as a highlight, or cheering more megapixels. Instead use that on-device power to be a content creation powerhouse.

Naa, toys are fun. The Pros have been boring slabs of a phone, without any color or personality, for years.

These colors might be a bit better....maybe...but I would still like to see some real color, rivaling the 5c.
If the colors of these mockups are accurate, it looks like they’re going for a hot and cold motif. Maybe not quite as bold as the 15’s color options, but still a lot more colorful than the mostly-gray-in-anything-but-bright-light-at-the-right-angle that most of the “fun” Pro colors have been, but course that could be how the real 17 Pros turn out.

I know taste is different - but does anyone know someone who actually said wow - what a nice design?

Personally im on a two year cycle and i got the 16pro last year but I am already praying that the 18 has a better design.

The new iPhone Pros look like toys ;(
There will surely be the usual almost-black and silver/almost-white options too for those who still want their “serious” looking Pro phones. I wouldn’t mind a jet black option again to go with the series 10 apple watch sometime soon too, which I feel would be a good match to the rumored “all-glass” iPhone without it actually being all glass.

The blue will be much darker apparently. The colour is said to be Pantone Mood Indigo.

I just hope that Apple releases the new AirPods Pro 3 at this event instead of waiting till late October or November when the new Mac's usually get refreshed. I really need to replace my AirPods Pro 2. As for the iPhone 17, only the Air really intrigues me, but I will say that the camera bump that everyone is criticizing has grown on me a bit. I don't love it, but I it wouldn't be deal breaker if I was in the market for a new iPhone.
