On some things yes. On others, the competition is years behind Apple. How long has Apple had Face ID and still nobody else comes close to replicating it. I’m sure it helps that the A series chips run a lot cooler than Snapdragon.
Or MagSafe for safer faster wireless charging, amongst other benefits, Air drop is another, competition are struggling to replicate, we could go on.......
On Android it will be split screens and swiping right as usual 🤣
 
Do they though? How many phone buyers are cross-shopping based on cpu performance? I can't imagine the average iPhone customer switching to Samsung because Snapdragon [nonsensical naming scheme here] is 5% faster in geekbench multicore.
Apple and Android are different worlds.
in Apple world, a new color can be enough to make people switch [Which model do you want? the Purple Cherry one!]. Unvisible matters less as long as the phone works seamlessly and other people see it's Apple.
in Android world, they differentiate with tech details [yay, I have StarDragon chipset with 8 cores @4.32GHz, only boomers have 7-core!]. Putting ecosystem aside, it's best user experience at higher price vs best specs at lower price.

Details matter. Getting hot is not the same as "over"heating.

Overheating is when a device crosses its defined thresholds and no longer functions properly.

A device can still perform well within its heat limits. Apple just wants to raise that limit as it builds in more and more on-device processing.
 
It may be that nobody except Apple wants Face ID. Certainly Face ID was an albatross during the masking era. In many ways I prefer Touch ID, except when my fingers are wet or I’m wearing gloves.

I’m not sure the A series chips run any cooler nowadays although that did used to be true. Qualcomm is competitive today.
I'll be very honest with you (because you sound like someone, who hasn't used FaceID) until I upgraded my series 7 reluctantly to the 12 Pro, I used to think exactly like you, in fact was probably a bigger opponent of Face ID than you.
Today, I would never go back to Touch ID.
 
Apple should turn this into a feature, run a specific app and it’s function is to heat up the iPhone so you can use it as a hand warmer. :p 🔥

For anyone who uses their hands during the day doing useful things, fingerprint readers don’t work very well. Ask a welder, fabricator, lineman, machinist, construction worker etc etc. basically anyone who provides real tangible things to the world. Also, if nobody besides Apple wants it, they wouldn’t include pathetic attempts at replicating it on their own devices.

Looks like there are a lot of changes with the upcoming 17 Pro Max. Good to hear about the thermal improvements. However I am not facing any thermal issues with my 15 Pro Max. It does get hot after using for some time, but not a huge issue for me.
 
My guess is the that they are adding the vapor chamber because the A19 will still be built on a 3nm process (third gen), and in order to push it even further and make a difference with the A18, they will clock it even faster, which will probably run hotter and need better thermal cooling. Something is -obviously- not getting the iPhone 17 Air, so maybe it won’t be clocked as aggressively… or carry a binned chip with less P-cores or less GPU cores.

If my guess is right, maybe it is worth it to just stick with an A18 powered device, as it seems the perfect balance of performance, efficiency and longevity.

Same. Even with a heat pipe, it’s going to have to go somewhere.
 
Is the back aluminum? Metal tends to interfere with wireless charging and that's why all iPhones since the X, including the often forgotten iPhone 8, use glass backs whereas the 7 and earlier were aluminum.
Also, an all-metal back would block the radio signals for wifi, Bluetooth, Ultra-Wideband (UWB), and NFC (Near Field Communication). The cell tower antennas, on the other hand, are along the sides of the iPhone and don't rely on a glass back.
