For people like me who had automations to turn on low power mode at certain % levels, no, this new adaptive mode does not always enable low power mode at 20%, only when it thinks it should do it.

Had to laugh reading these comments again, where people complain about a feature they do not really understand as it seems.
But complaining, that’s the most important thing 😅

1. you can deactivate it, if you have any issues with it

2. this is a simple measurement after a couple of days of your phones usual battery consumption.
For example: start with 100% and usually with your phone usage your around 60% at 6pm.
If there is a day where you noticeable below (higher usage) your phone can activate some battery saving features to make sure that you don’t run out of battery on that day.

3. again it’s a joke that apple hides this behind apple AI - there’s isn’t anything that smart behind that

FYI Adapative Power may not be available for all old models, at least I didn't find it on my parent's iPhone 15 when I upgraded it to iOS 26 RC yesterday.

This mode is interesting but I really think Apple should tell us not just when they're turning it on, but also when they turn it off. You have no way to at any given time check to see whether it's on or off.

I wonder if Apple's new battery estimates assume Adaptive Power is enabled? That would explain why some phones like iPhone Air seem to have longer than expected battery life.
And THAT is why it’s enabled by default. So Apple can claim the battery life hours they want to advertise. You can only advertise based on the default settings unless you qualify it — and qualifying it makes people dismissive of it.

UPDATE: Actually, maybe I will reserve judgement until somebody compares with and without. Because I would suspect a brand new phone being tested for battery life would know nothing about somebody’s usage habits. How much could it optimize? The video playback test for battery life already has a prescribed screen brightness.

For anyone who is not 3 IQ, it's on by default on the 17 lineup due to iPhone Air. But that would be too obvious, so they make it on by default for all of the 17 series. Otherwise it doesn't make sense; if anything it would be needed on older models more.

What on earth are you going on about "creepy tracking" and "AI" this has no tracking and has nothing to do with AI.
You think so? Machine learning is a field of AI. This is machine learning.
And all the usage data is sent to Apple for analysis, tuning of the machine learning algorithm, product tailoring and other uses they will never tell us.

Don't really like it, because you can't tell when it does something. So whenever the phone seems slow or weird, i'm gonna wonder if this feature is at fault.

Since i never struggle with battery life anyway, i'm just gonna keep it turned off.

so help me if THIS is how they’re achieving those battery estimates….

Sorry i can not for professional and personal reasons nerf my background processing, brightness or anything else. I need 100% iPhone 100% of the time.
Yeah...The ability to customize this vs it being on/off would be useful. The screen brightness is going to dim regardless of this setting lol.

I wouldn’t have been surprised if this was an air exclusive. I’m glad it’s on all recent phones.

Turned it on for my 16e yesterday & haven’t noticed any difference.

I don’t game or do anything particularly taxing with it, so a middle ground between normal & low power mode is most welcome.

I will be turning it off and using it at least for the first few days once my new 17 Pro Max is delivered. Think the Air will definitely benefit from this.

Nope, the new batteries are larger. The MAh numbers have been posted. Google it.

They may well be. But as these feature is enabled by default it will also factor into the averaged numbers

Apple does something to help with battery and people lose their minds before even trying it for any significant amount of time. Mkes sense. Well, forum users who make up an insignificant portion of users worldwide anyway. Give it a chance before complaining so much.

Machine learning is yes - I don't think is machine learning - I think it's basic scripting to be honest. Its not complicated enough to new ML.

It's more likely to be something along the lines of "at 50% battery dim users chosen brighten by 3%" - "at 20% battery enable low battery mode" etc - the sort of stuff you could build as automations in Shortcuts.

You have to opt into Apple analytics (which I do because i've no idea why you'd care about that data and I want products to get better) - ML is all on device even if this was it.

Is Adaptive Power mode available on iOS 26 iPhone 15 Pro? Or just on the 17/Air models?
