Apple does not advertise RAM amounts in iPhones, but MacRumors has confirmed this information through Apple's developer tool Xcode.

Like the iPhone 16e, the iPhone 17e is equipped with 8GB of RAM, according to the Xcode data. This was the expected amount of RAM, and it is the minimum required for a device to be compatible with Apple Intelligence.

This means both the standard iPhone 17 model and the lower-end iPhone 17e are equipped with the A19 chip and 8GB of RAM. However, the iPhone 17e has a slightly limited 4-core GPU, while the iPhone 17 has a 5-core GPU.

iPhone 17e can be pre-ordered now and launches on Wednesday, March 11.

The important part is that it's "BUILT" for Apple Intelligence.
🤣

I do wish they'd make a smaller "e", as it'd be fine for me coming from a 13 Mini.

I imagine most people expected it, will be just fine with 8gb as this isn't marketed towards power users anyway.

Not surprising considering current memory shortages/pricing and the fact that the 17e starts at the same price as 16e with double the storage capacity. Not expecting it to be increased even next year.

I'm thinking the same people who expected the MacBook Neo to have 12GB or even 16GB of RAM even though the A18 Pro chip that it uses never came with more than 8GB
That Neo is the most brilliant use of binned A18 inventory I've ever seen. Most chips have just a single core that failed. Perfect use of spare iPhone SOC inventory.

Neo might eventually get 12GB with an A19... in 2028.

I’m going to pretend I’m one of those people slating the Neo for being entry level…

8GB of ram and no promotion or triple cameras on a phone in 2026, this is embarrassing! My crappy android phone from 2013 has those features what a rip off it’s going to be DOA /s

They couldn’t stand the feeling of giving people “too much” RAM anymore so they had to have one model where they could feel good about using the bare minimum.

In a few years when 8GB is clearly completely unusable like 4GB is now, they’ll bump it to 12.

This product is bad, but it's not _android_ bad.

If the strategy continues to be to use binned chips from the previous generation iPhone Pros then there is a good chance we'll see a MacBook Neo with A19 Pro & 12 GB of RAM 2027.
