You’re probably right. And when I can no longer buy an Apple device that allows me to turn off AI (and Siri), that is when I will drop out of the ecosystem.

Was Straight Talk at Walmart but the deal has expired. It's now $399.

Wrong market. 16e was targeted at iPhone 11/12/SE owners. Dynamic Island wasn't on the base iPhone until 15.

16e would have been perfect for me. I don’t need lots of cameras or use MagSafe but the lack of U1 chip and therefore precision finding is an absolute dealbreaker for me. I wonder how many feel the same way.

Me. The new Dynamic Island screens give me vertigo so I’ve been stuck using a 14. I would have upgraded to a 16E at launch if it had UWB with precision finding. Apple cheaping out on that was my dealbreaker.

Slick deals is great for this. Set an alert for 17e sales.

Lacking MagSafe was a huge downside for the 16e. Will be great if dynamic island is also present. Don't think Apple will increase the price for the new version.
