iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max Have Different Modems

Interesting.

Checking a few other countries, I see that in the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Vietnam, Singapore, Denmark, Netherlands, etc., the Pro Max doesn't list the C2, while other countries like Canada, India, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Australia show the Pro and Pro Max both have the C2.

So it's not just the U.S. Confusing.

It gets even weirder. It seems the Duo (C2) gets mmWave support while 18 Pro (C2) and Pro Max (Qualcomm) don’t.

Perhaps they're migrating away from Qualcomm period, but need to leave an option on the table in case a specific category of customer is not well served by C2. I commented on Qualcomm's device price royalty (3-5% of device price) in another thread.

I suspect that there are edge case compatibility issues with C2, because cellular infrastructure is engineered to work best with Qualcomm. There may also be signal strength or download issues in specific situations. For those folks - they will at least have one device they can fall back on if they want an iPhone.

I’ll let people test the C2 modem first I guess lol. I know Apple wants to lessen dependence on Qualcomm because they rip Apple off apparently

That really brings back memories! I think I first used 14.4 baud modem, then 33.6K, then 56K (or something like that). And if I recall, there were two 56K standards and the details escape me at this point. This was like way way way back in the 90s!!

Any of you still remember back then the FreeNet communities? Internet was not really much of a thing and largely outside of academic and corporate environments, home users would connect to local bboards or FreeNet communities that offered free (mostly text-based) internet connection. OMG, that is like from another lifetime ago and I know a lot of the experience and details escape me now even though I lived through all of that.

Yes, Snapdragon was better than C1 and C1X. But we dont know if the new generation Snapdragon is better than C2 or not.

I don't think this makes much of a difference if Apple is advertising better battery life on the Pro Max vs the Pro. This could literally just be a typo too. They've had false specs on their own technical specs pages before in recent years. Most notably advertising and removing an "anti-reflective coating" for the camera and the GPU core count being reduced on the iPad Air.
