This year's iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could be $250-$300 more expensive than existing iPhone 17 Pro models due to higher silicon and memory costs, an analyst claimed today.

According to an earnings note by Jeff Pu of GF Securities, higher 2nm silicon and DRAM/NAND costs could drive the price hikes, as Apple grapples with global component shortages owing to the AI infrastructure buildout.

Currently, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max start at $1,099 and $1,199, respectively. In June, Apple increased the prices of iPads, Macs, HomePods, the Apple TV, and the Vision Pro. iPhone models were spared similar hikes. Pu believes price hikes on the next-generation Pro models could create "demand uncertainty." The analyst has subsequently downgraded AAPL from buy to hold.

It's a shift of tone from Pu, who in May said Apple could price the iPhone 18 Pro models "aggressively," despite rising memory costs.

During the company's Q3 earnings call on Thursday, outgoing Apple CEO Tim Cook did not comment on whether Apple plans to raise iPhone prices when the iPhone 18 Pro models and first foldable launch this September, but many analysts believe prices will go up.

This September, Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro models alongside its first foldable iPhone, which is expected to cost north of $2,000. The regular iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2 are expected to launch in spring 2027.

That's OK because it will be the MOAST PRO iPhone we've ever created with more features than ever before packed into an iPhone worth far more than the price increase. We think you are going to love it even more than ever before.

Apple Introduces iPhone 18 Pro, the Most Pro iPhone Ever — Now $800 More Pro

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA — Apple today announced iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, the most advanced, most powerful, and most expensive iPhone models Apple has ever created.

Starting at just $1,799, iPhone 18 Pro costs $800 more than iPhone 17 Pro, a difference customers will barely notice once it is divided into 36 convenient monthly payments and emotionally justified as an investment in cat selfie creativity.

“iPhone 18 Pro redefines what it means to be Pro,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “It is more Pro in every possible way: the camera is Pro, the chip is Pro, the display is Pro, and, most importantly, the price is extremely Pro.”

iPhone 18 Pro features the groundbreaking A20 Pro Max Ultra chip, delivering up to 7% faster performance during tasks that were already instantaneous. A revolutionary new vapor chamber cooling system allows users to record several additional minutes of 8K one orange braincell video before the device becomes pleasantly warm.

The new Pro Fusion Camera System introduces a 49-megapixel main sensor, one megapixel more than last year, enabling photographers to capture extraordinary detail that will later be compressed and uploaded to Instagram.

Apple has also redesigned the Action Button, moving it 1.5 millimeters lower for a more intuitive experience. The titanium enclosure is now made from aerospace-grade Ultra Titanium, a material that is virtually indistinguishable from last year’s titanium but requires an entirely new manufacturing process and matching $79 case.

For the first time, iPhone 18 Pro includes Apple Intelligence Pro, which intelligently recognizes when users are questioning the price and automatically opens the Trade In page.

“We know customers expect the very best from iPhone,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “They also expect to complain about the price, preorder it at 8:01 a.m., and post ‘finally arrived’ photos two weeks later. We’re thrilled to deliver that experience.”

iPhone 18 Pro will be available in four stunning finishes: Space Black, Lunar Silver, Desert Titanium Again, and an exclusive new shade called Money Green to remind you how much your bank account dropped with the purchase.

Preorders begin Friday. Customers can now purchase AppleCarePro to receive peace of mind knowing that the most Pro iPhone ever can still be destroyed by a three-foot fall onto a kitchen tile.

Honestly isn’t shocking. They are cheaper than Samsung’s flagships. Plus if a Pro Max is $1500 - that makes the $2k more palatable to some probably in Apple’s eyes.

It’s also no coincidence that we are seeing them partner with klarna to lease phones and in order to have cheaper monthly payments - we are in for a sticker shock in about a month with the 18 Pro & Max, and Ultra/Fold.

Don’t you mean Apple Intelligence Pro, A.I. Pro Max, A.I. Ultra and then in the spring A.I.e?

For the first time since the original iPhone, I truly may not upgrade this year. I have had every one and enjoyed the iPhone Upgrade Program. Now that's gone, pricing going up, minimal updates of note... yep, may finally be time to just hold my 17PM for 20 next year. Already not interested in the Fold/Ultra.

First world problems, most of the people in the world can't afford to change phone every year

There is going to be a lot of people globally snubbing this phone if they do this. How out of touch can a company be? The Pro models are already expensive and a £300 increase would suggest the 18 Pro Max will start at £1499 in the UK lol, are they alright? LOL. A standard iPhone for me next year I think, this is nonsense.

I would be surprised if they don't raise prices with all this memory shortage going on. This is one of the most annoying timelines to be on if you need to upgrade from an old device if you have been holding out for a long time.

I usually upgrade every 4th release, currently on 14 pro, so next upgrade is 18, we just went to the store last week and upgraded to 17 pro. Good enough upgrade, waiting on 18 which will be incremental at best from 17 and paying another 300 or so? No thanks.

The whole lease a phone scheme is just getting ahead of the price hikes and stopping sales dropping.
