iPhone 18 Pro: Nine Reasons Not to Upgrade This Year

Only the Pro and folding models will be announced this week. The iphone 18, 18e and Air2 will be released next spring.
Nobody is even meant to upgrade annually. The reason they often compare the stats of the new ones to those of 3-4 years ago is because this is always the target audience. If you own a 15 Pro or newer you're wasting your money.

Not seeing much once again this year to get me off this perfectly fine 13 Pro Max. Whenever I do replace it, I'll go smaller with the regular Pro so the rumored size bump for next year is a concern, but no rush, the 18 Pro will remain an option.
No physical buttons, no buy! And you're telling me to buy a much more fragile phone? Thanks! That'll drain my wallet faster 😁!

That’s not what the article says. The article says this year phone will be an iterative upgrade largely similar to last year phone, whereas next year iPhone will be an anniversary edition with many significant features. So for people who don’t upgrade every year (believe it or not that’s most people), it’s useful to know that if they wait one year the difference between next model and the one about to be released is significantly larger than the one between current line up and the phones about to be released.

This is always the best advice.
In the past I used to upgrade every year and gradually came to realize for how I use my phone that this is a total waste of money for what are very minor improvements each year. A 3 year cycle seems to be my sweet spot now and usually that is for accumulated camera improvements.

Same. But I’d love to see more concrete rumors that the Air 2 will come with a second (ultra-wide/macro) camera, proper stereo speakers, and, hopefully, better battery life. If not, then 18 Pro Max it is (because my otherwise beloved 15 Pro Max already struggles to last a full day, and I want to upgrade soon-ish; shame the Air 2 isn’t coming this fall).

We don’t need these editorialized budget speculations. We just want the rumors and can make our own decisions as some of us can afford a new phone every year especially when you get most of your money back from sale or trade.

It all is entirely dependent on how much the overall lease cost will be over the course of one year for me. If that is too much to handle, then I might go to Samsung.

I just upgraded my son's 13 mini to a 17 Pro.
T-Mobile gave me $630 trade over 24 months for his 13 mini toward a 17 Pro about 10 days ago - and said discount would drop to $430 over 36 months when 18 Pro came out, and I see its already changed to $430 over 36 (only for the 13 series). It seems the best trade in values are reserved for the previous 4 generations.
So I think the $200 difference and whatever price increase not to mention 36 vs 24 months was worth it for me.
The $630 discount is less than the usual $830 because I'm on an already discounted military plan.

I'll probably be upgrading from my 13 Pro to the 18 Pro this year. Would love to wait for the anniversary version (if there will be such a thing), but my battery life is complete dog poop right now, and I've had it with having to carry a USB-C<->Lightning cable with me just for this phone.

Do you like heavy thick phones? Apple can't stop making them thicker and heavier!
Maybe just replace your battery on your current phone and save yourself a ton of money?

Every year I'm told why I should wait and not upgrade this year. Well sir, The Dude does NOT abide. I upgrade EVERY year since the OG iPhone and will continue to do so. TYVM.
