So it will have 3 awful new colours and a side android style hole for Face ID. Truly awful.

Good news is the side hole is due to go in 2027. But we could end up with a curved glass android display again.

No wonder they expect sales to fall next year no standard model and a terrible Pro upgrade. Everybody should keep there existing iPhones rather than these awful updates. Any reason why they are going for failed Android designs like the side hole and curved glass?

Kind of makes the Google Pixel look a great phone in 2025. I usually update yearly and the air was great but it looks like 2026 and 2027 could be the ones to skip.

Not going to skip anything as a yearly upgrader. My 17 PM is already reserved for someone in my family still rocking a XS Max. He would really be mad at me if I’d skip. 😂

If anything, it'll be the phone to get.

refined 17 design with hopefully better colours and stronger frame.

punch hole for more screen, C2 chip, A20 etc etc

The 18 Pro will be like the 15 Pro, an incremental upgrade over the previous model. I don’t think they’ll be marketing it all that much as the focus will be on the new foldable. It’ll likely just be an afterthought.

Do you believe everything you read?

15Pro wasn't an especially small upgrade though. New form factor (no sharp corners), new materials for the frame, new screen shrinked bezels, different buttons... This is probably gonna be more like 15P to 16P - focus on chip and spec improvements limiting visual design changes to new color options.

EDIT: Actually 15Pro didn't have the camera button yet. So it replaced mute switch and they still added additional button with 16Pro. Also keeping in mind that 16P also has a different slightly bigger screen than 15P I struggle to fit either analogy to be honest. I doubt they are gonna improve the screen beyond minor changes not involving PPI, size or bezels, change button layout once again or change the form factor for 18P. Maybe some new process of anodization against scratches and featuring it in black color is my thinking.

Agreed. I reckon we’ll see an improved SoC, marginally better cameras and new colours. It’ll be much ado about nothing as everyone will be talking about the foldable.

All rumours point towards a side android camera hole I believe Android got rid of this 8 years ago.

Really does seem the year to skip especially as it’s going full screen in 2027. Even if you like the side camera it goes the year after making it very quickly out dated.

Also no standard model so I expect to hear record low iPhone sales. Fold will flop like the Vision Pro due to price and lack of demand

So we have curved display phones coming folding phone coming which looks awful compared to other fold. iPhone 18 pro looks a poor update too.

Add to that iPhone 18 looks a pointless update for iPhone 17 users.

Then rumours of a flip iPhone Apple is losing its touch. The cheaper models are starting to look better and the updates are becoming Samsung like.

So update the title the iPhone 18 looks one to skip too after today’s news

What? There are no new holes on the side of the phone. What rumor site have you been reading? What Android phone has holes on the side?

No one expects that. It will probably be Apple's single biggest quarter ever with a folding phone, a HomePod with a screen, a new AppleTV, maybe a security camera and/or a smart doorbell. So much AI and home automation stuff. Sales will be through the roof.

Using a Pixel 10 Pro as my work phone and it is a great device. I hope Siri catches up with True Gemini this autumn and gives me more reason to use my iPhone, but I am very happy with Pixel and Android 16/Material 3 Expressive.

Pay too much attention to the rumors and the negativity that surrounds them and you will never buy another phone. If skipping the 18, why not skip the 19/XX next year because the 200 MP camera is being held for 2028 phones? But then there will probably be good reason to skip that phone too. Just get a phone when you can afford it and when you want it. Hakuna matata!

He is talking about the selfie camera(s) spot on the screen turning into a pinhole rather than a pill shape. I guess he thinks it will be off to the side of the screen (rather than centered).

I've read that the pill will shrink, but I'm not sure if it will shrink to a pinhole. I also haven't seen anything saying it will be off-center.

But I truly have no idea why OP is describing this as "truly awful". Maybe he likes a bigger, pill shaped black space on his screen.

“ 3 awful new colours “

The problem with this statement is that color is subjective, and colors that you may find awful, others could love…. If they get the shade of red right that might be a big hit…… also people loved the sierra blue on the iPhone 13 Pro….. so that shade could very well be a hit too…. Then you have your classic silver and dark gray for the conventional folks.

I'm finding some info on this from about a year ago, but nothing strong pointing toward this recently at all. Mac rumors says (from last week):

"The front of the device could look different, with either a slimmed-down Dynamic Island or no Dynamic Island at all. Apple could potentially adopt just a hole punch cutout at the top left corner of the display for the camera, but more reliable rumors are currently pointing toward a smaller Dynamic Island."

Awful colors lol.... have you seen the 17pro lineup?

Is this a bot account?

The real problem isn’t the design — it’s the lack of meaningful reasons to upgrade. Most users would rather have better battery life, cooler thermals, smarter Siri, and real camera improvements than a side cutout or curved glass. If Apple can’t deliver that, skipping a year makes sense.

Considering the regular 17 model got such a massive upgrade, I have zero hype for the 18 generation. It will probably turn into a situation like we had with the 13 vs 14, which minimal daily-life-relevant upgrades. And that's not bad, as it keeps current 17 owners happy and potential new buyers will be able to snatch it at even lower prices (and I already saved over 200€ compared to the MSRP).

The Pro models could get a new main camera sensor finally (they use the same 1/1.28" Sony IMX sensor since the 14 Pro!) and maybe some minor design adjustments (uniform back color), but I also see no massive rooms for improvements there either. Eventually you reach a point where you can't make screens even larger or the bezels even smaller - they are already more than thin enough. Maybe we see some larger jumps in battery capacity, should they finally switch to silicon-carbon. But current battery life is also great, imho.
