iPhone 18e Rumored to Feature Increased RAM

The lower-end iPhone 18e that Apple is expected to release by March 2027 will be equipped with 9GB of RAM, up from 8GB in the iPhone 17e, according to analyst Jeff Pu.

9GB of RAM for the iPhone 18e was already rumored by another analyst Ming-Chi Kuo last month.

With the new leasing program out, I don't understand why people would buy the Iphone 18E or regular ones outright, paying full price for an inferior product.

Before the leasing program I'd say the "E" and regular series were good deals, but now, I don't have that opinion anymore.

I agree.

I bet that the vast majority of consumers already get an iPhone through a monthly payment plan from a carrier anyway.

However, I think both the 16e and 17e are great phones for businesses with a high RoI businesses don’t need to provide their employees with another camera lens, camera control, Dynamic Island or pro motion etc. but they’d like their purchase to have 4-5 years of use, which the e series offers.

Following from this, the e series is a great way for people to get a up to date iPhone, who simply don’t care about the above features. And who are probably a little price sensitive - even for monthly payments.

I agree with bluecoast's (above) comments.

I've had an SE (gen1), SE (gen2), SE (gen3), 16e, and now the 17e, so I've "lived" the low-cost iPhone line for a long time. During the SE series, I admit that I wish there had been more of an annual update cadence, but generally speaking, I have been satisfied with this iPhone line. I've never needed the multi-camera iPhone, and so far, the 17e has been the best with good battery life, face-ID, USB3, etc.

Nothing changes in the actual value of the product no matter how many ways they give you to eventually pay the same amount.

In addition, this development of increasing the ram is very revealing.

For a company that historically is very stingy with ram, it seems that the only reason they are increasing the amount on this entry level iPhone is the demands of the upcoming iOS 27.

Eh double your RAM is nice. I went from the 14 Pro Max to the 17 Pro Max and let me tell you it is VERY nice. I think the 18 Pro is just gonna have 12GB

I wholeheartedly agree! Then again I just want an iPhone SE line where it’s upgraded every 2 years. I see no point in a 16e and a 17e it’s really dumb.

Genuine question - have the RAM requirements for the advanced Siri AI model ever been published by Apple, or are all the "12GB minimum" claims infered from the currently supported hardware? Maybe 9GB gives iOS enough headroom to run the advanced AI model? Might explain this rumoured 9GB in the new low-end devices?
