iPhone 20 Rumored to Have Biggest Revamp Since iPhone X

Apple plans to release a special 20th-anniversary iPhone next year with the biggest design changes since the iPhone X, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Unveiled by Steve Jobs in 2007, the iPhone turns 20 next year. To mark the occasion, the report said Apple plans to release a 20th-anniversary iPhone with "curved glass around all corners and edges" and thinner bezels around the screen.

"It will be the biggest overhaul to what is now the iPhone Pro line since the iPhone X," the report said, but no further details were provided.

Released in 2017, the iPhone X was the first iPhone with Face ID. The removal of the Touch ID button allowed for the iPhone X's screen to extend more towards the edges of the device compared to previous models. It seems like the 20th-anniversary iPhone would go a step further than this by truly having the screen wrap around the corners and edges of the device, for a seemingly all-glass appearance.

Rumors about the 20th-anniversary iPhone have gone back and forth, but based on Gurman's latest reporting today, the device seems to be in the works still. However, it remains to be seen if Apple can fully achieve the ambitious design changes that are apparently in development, or if plans for the device will ultimately be scaled back.

My wife & I are two of the maybe 575 people in the world who DO NOT put a case around our phones, so we’d actually be able to see this nice new feature

Talk about a niche market!

Apple doesn’t even really do anniversary products. If they’re not making it up, then there must be something they see in the supply chain (I’m ALWAYS on the side of they’re making it up), but we’ll see if it becomes another “Apple has chosen NOT to do that thing I said they’d do. So, since I knew that they would AND that they wouldn’t, please subscribe!”

Good to hear. As I've decided to do anniversary phone upgrade cycles only after giving the X and Xr both a ride from their respective launches till 2026. I could have given it another year but decided to upgrade anyways to 17e. I interact with sites that sometimes require you to do a log in challenge. I struggled for awhile to update some very important account info cause I only had my iPhone available at this particular time. Every time I'd take the photo required for verification my phone would sometimes hard reset. This only reason I went and got a 17e to hold me over till iPhone 20.

I hate incremental upgrades but at times I'd like a more valid reason for not participating in them. I forgot for awhile my X was an anniversary phone.

I won't care what the price when it releases cause 9-10 years of use makes it a lot cheaper than going from iPhone to iPhone yearly.

I'd rather occasionally upgrade my companion device, which in this case is the iPad Mini, which is what I use together with iPhone. Whether at home or away.

Anniversary phone only upgrade vibe is pretty much the most stress free lifestyle choice I've made for myself lately. There's No FOMO. They're built super well. Unique. Don't have to deal with incremental upgrades. And as a casual phone user going after another anniversary phone I get a lot more than what I'd normally bargain for.

A.I.O - ANNIVERSARY iPHONES ONLY, it's the way to go for casual phone users. Esp if you're someone like me who can get away with using an Air or an E design iPhone because that's really all you need, something simple with a specific design specific, in my case I like lighter phones, but I am not a fan of thinness. It's perfect reasoning to be able to shop around the pro/pro max range.

In that case, the Air or the "20th Anniversary S" phone might be better for you then.

First gen Apple is always a gamble, with the exception of the X I guess.
 
Screens that bend round the edge are useless.
I had one, years ago - the Samsung S7 edge I think it was called. Full on edge gimic widgets too.
Looked pretty but cases and screen protectors were a nightmare. Also it distorted the image a bit towards the event horizon!
And let's not forget the fragility of glass!
Knowing Apple it will also weigh more (sigh). The iPads get thinner, and each year the iphone gets thicker and heavier.

Why do you think? The point of articles is to make you click and comment. Using a very fake looking AI photo is designed to make more people click and comment thus leading to more revenue for macrumors. You fell for exactly what they wanted.

Yes... Apple, like other businesses, is also subject to inflation and rising parts/assembly costs. Along with increases in employee salaries/benefits and company overhead costs.
 
I don't think it will be an all-glass phone, but a phone still with thin metal edges but a slightly curving display in front. And it may be the first iPhone to have haptic buttons on both sides of the phone, designed in a way that even if the battery indicator drops to 0% there is still enough charge in the battery to operate the haptic buttons.

Agree. Completely impractical.
 
I would have to give the "biggest revamp" since the iPhone X to the iPhone Ultra, or whatever the Apple foldable ends up being called.
