I'm wondering if the both the 4gb and 8gb versions of the first generation iPhone were released at the same time?

Yes. Both were launched at the same time. The 4GB was only offered until the September 2007 iPod event where they discontinued the 4GB and dropped the price of the 8GB by $200. This caused some outrage because the device was so new and many had just spent $599 on an 8GB and now it was $399.

The 16GB came out in February 2008.

It was an odd decision for them to drop the price by $200 only a few months later, but at least early iPhone owners got a $100 Apple gift card out of it.

The original iPhones were only available through AT&T and required a 2 year contract at the selling prices.

Also back then, it was minutes and text messages that were the variable which determined the plan price while data was unlimited. Eventually, that flipped and data become the variable while minutes/texts were typically unlimited.

Thanks! Sorry late reply, it seems the notification is not working for me.

$200 is a lot. Must have outraged previous buyers. haha..
