I own the original 16gb. It's a tank; and quite frankly never even thought to give the 3g a second thought. Could not justify 15/month extra to ATT for the same service and less of a quality build. 3G may be faster yes, however it is one of the very few tech gadgets I personally skipped, and never even cared.

My old 2G iPhone is still working perfectly. Battery is a little less than perfect but it doesn't let me down.

The exterior is a little worn now that it's over a year old. But comparing it to my friends 3G who use it for business use and they do get quite a thrashing around, the 3G just can't seem to take the abuse like the original iPhone.
The 3G is cracked, has scuff marks, the white looks a bit dirty and the battery is pure ****.
In saying that I'd still like a 3G iPhone for it's 3G capabilities and GPS obviously but if only you could cram it into the old iPhone design.

I would never give up my 2g. I love it. It is sleeker in your hand, looks better and feels better. It's stronger and just a better phone all around. The 3g was a mass produced product to hit the masses. The original iPhone was more for the niche Apple freak who wanted an apple phone. I would much rather be known as an Apple freak than someone who got an iPhone for christmas.

Besides, the 3g was such a step down that it just doesn't compare.

So what does that make somebody who owns both?

I still have my original phone and would love to use it but the 3G speeds are worth the slight step down in quality. I have a BSE on the back on my 3G and the anti-glare screen protector and my phone is flawless. I don't baby it by any means. The shield definitely does it's job.

I would be all over the new model if it was released looking like the first generation model. But I have to admit the black on black has grown on me.

The day the 3G came out I was saying how it was such a step backwards as far as build quality. I called it a "budget" model and the people on this forum crucified me for it. The 3G is NOT built as well as the original. It IS BUDGET and that's why I did not "upgrade" but I will hopefully be swayed by whatever is released this June!
