Nothing has worked so far. :(

It will feel so weird throwing away an original iPhone in good condition.

There are still batteries for sale, and maybe you can find a service that would repair it if you don't want to follow the iFixit instructions.

I have an iPhone 2G that I keep for nostalgia.

Learn to let go of material things that don't work and are no longer necessary. Would you keep your very 1st car around for nostalgia even though it no longer runs?

If it were the size of an iPhone, maybe...

There's nothing wrong with collecting vintage electronics, you know.

I also have an Apple IIc, a Macintosh Classic, iBook G3 Clamshell, iMac G3, and iMac G4. They all work though...

Could you give it to someone who does know how to solder?

In all seriousness, if by all means the phone is dead, take it into an Apple store and and you will get a replacement white box device shipped to the store or to your door. However, you'll have to pay the $149 out of warranty fee, but that's it. They don't actually repair the 2G. Good luck...

I will have to look into it. Apple no longer services it, it was changed to "vintage status" by Apple last year.

For some reason, there was an instinct telling me to do this and I didnt. But now I think I will.

Whats wrong with you? You don't even know me nor have you ever seen my house. For you to call someone a hoarder you've never met is ridiculous. People collect all kinds of things. Do you have an addiction to posting idiotic comments online portraying yourself as an armchair psychologist? Good luck beating your addiction.

Lol.... Still say go trade it in for an OOW 4s and make some money (if u can per ur above post) Take a picture of it and put it in an apple scrap book.

Guess I'm a minimalist so I don't collect anything really. I like having my place completely clear of stuff if possible. Things I don't really use cluttering up my place would drive me insane. The only electronics I want in my house would be my television, macbook air, and iphone 5s. Everything else gets the boot! ;)

I agree.

At the end of the day, the original iPhone 2G while cool, was a mass produced consumer electronic item.

How does telling OP to throw away their iPhone help answer their question?
Either way, if it were mine I would replace the battery in it.
If you don't know how to solder, no time better than now to learn how too!! :) it's not as hard to do as you would think.

It's great to see the community coming together to sit in totally unnecessary and asinine judgment of one of their own. Someone comes here to ask a perfectly simple question and gets called a hoarder and what-not. Good job guys; way to come together and help make a fellow human being's day just a little bit brighter.

Leave charging the iphone for 10 hours or more to see if it will work.

I think some of us just wanted to put things in perspective, that's all. :)

You know, I bet you the batteries inside those are dead. If you open them, they likely won't turn on.

Yeah I've been reading these forums for years now, the crowd has really changed, and not for the better. There are still plenty of normal and helpful people on here.

So was the Macintosh 128k. But I would do anything to get my hands on one of those, and they're worth a pretty penny if they're working.

Yeah, I have nothing to lose at this point and the replacement battery costs pennies on Amazon. It's like $4. I just need a soldering tool, but that shouldn't cost much. My next challenge is actually opening up the iPhone, the iPhone 2G may very well be the most difficult iPhone to open.

UPDATE: Decided to try DFU mode one last time before ordering a new battery and learning the art of soldering, and it worked! The phone came back to life and was restored to factory settings. The battery seems to be in good condition and holds a good charge. Yayyyy!!! :D

I love old technology. I actually have a second iPhone 2G with a non-working SIM reader and vibration motor. I'm going to give that one to my niece to play games on when she turns two.

Awesome bro; glad to hear it. I still remember my first iPhone; seemed like magic back then coming from Windows Phones. It's fun that you can relive that experience. :)

I also have a Nokia Lumia 520 Windows 8.1 Phone, and the iPhone 2G still feels like magic even coming from that. :D

It's amazing how slow that phone feels now. It's on iOS 3.1.3 and trying to browse macrumors is death. VERY sluggish. When I go back to my iPhone 6 it feels so heavenly.

I just want that 2G to last into the future so I'll be able to show it to my kids some day. I even have the original box for it.
