Nothing has worked so far.
It will feel so weird throwing away an original iPhone in good condition.
I have an iPhone 2G that I keep for nostalgia.
Learn to let go of material things that don't work and are no longer necessary. Would you keep your very 1st car around for nostalgia even though it no longer runs?
Could you give it to someone who does know how to solder?
There are still batteries for sale, and maybe you can find a service that would repair it if you don't want to follow the iFixit instructions.
In all seriousness, if by all means the phone is dead, take it into an Apple store and and you will get a replacement white box device shipped to the store or to your door. However, you'll have to pay the $149 out of warranty fee, but that's it. They don't actually repair the 2G. Good luck...
For some reason, there was an instinct telling me to do this and I didnt. But now I think I will.

Whats wrong with you? You don't even know me nor have you ever seen my house. For you to call someone a hoarder you've never met is ridiculous. People collect all kinds of things. Do you have an addiction to posting idiotic comments online portraying yourself as an armchair psychologist? Good luck beating your addiction.
If it were the size of an iPhone, maybe...
There's nothing wrong with collecting vintage electronics, you know.

It's great to see the community coming together to sit in totally unnecessary and asinine judgment of one of their own. Someone comes here to ask a perfectly simple question and gets called a hoarder and what-not. Good job guys; way to come together and help make a fellow human being's day just a little bit brighter.
Buy this iphone and your problems will be over:

I agree.
At the end of the day, the original iPhone 2G while cool, was a mass produced consumer electronic item.
How does telling OP to throw away their iPhone help answer their question?
Either way, if it were mine I would replace the battery in it.
If you don't know how to solder, no time better than now to learn how too!!it's not as hard to do as you would think.
UPDATE: Decided to try DFU mode one last time before ordering a new battery and learning the art of soldering, and it worked! The phone came back to life and was restored to factory settings. The battery seems to be in good condition and holds a good charge. Yayyyy!!!
I love old technology. I actually have a second iPhone 2G with a non-working SIM reader and vibration motor. I'm going to give that one to my niece to play games on when she turns two.
Awesome bro; glad to hear it. I still remember my first iPhone; seemed like magic back then coming from Windows Phones. It's fun that you can relive that experience.![]()
