Iphone 2g (US version)- not working after updating to latest firmware (3.1.3).

It was on version 1.1.4 and hasnt been updated for years.

Recently youtube wouldnt work on the Iphone just few days ago (stated must connect to Itunes).

So i connected to Itunes and try to update to the latest firmware.

After downloaded finished...all i could do is make emergency calls and symbol showing Itunes and a usb.

Any advice or making it work again?

(phone may have been jailbroken or unlocked before -which a friend did for me-long time ago).

I have to been to a shop.

They said they cant unlock until the new firmware is released as i tried to update to the latest software (3.1.3).

Anyone have a rough idea when the next firmware will be realeased.

Also how often are firmwares realease on the iphones.

When was the last firmware.

They cant unlock or JB a 3GS model you mean.
The 2G can be unlocked and JB.
The 3G updated to 3.1.3 can only by JB but not unlocked.
Noone knows when the new firmware will be out and when a new JB and an unlock is released.
Maybe a few months is my guess.

If you have an official iPhone plan it'll work right after the restore.

But seems like you don't have it, so you need to jailbreak it.

I was referring to IPHONE 2g only.

I showed the shop keeper my Iphone 2g.

He stated it cant be unlocked until new firmware will be released as i updated to the latest firware 3.1.3 which then it blocked the phone.

The 2G can always be unlocked unlike the 3G and 3GS models.
Follow these steps and you should be able to do it yourself.

Yes, its ok.
When redsnow asks you for the firmware point it to the 3.1.2 file that you downloaded from that page.
The rest will go as described on the steps.

Do i need to this with the sim card inserted in the iphone?

When sim card is inserted it states:

The sim card inserted in this phone does not appear to be supported.

It was working with the O2 (pay as you go) and my contract 02 before the phone got locked.

It may need the AT and T sim which i orginally had.

Stuck on Step 2....

Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down shift and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone.

iv done this....but then message regarding this comes along...and advice..?
