Hello guys.

My dad works away in Russia for months at at time I advised him that he should not enable the data roaming facility unless he wants large bills from o2. Where he stays out there they have a wifi network which he has said he has tried to connect to without success. He has no problems connecting to wifi back in the uk.

My question is does the data roaming facililty have to be enabled to him to successfully connect to a wifi network abroad or is it just th cellular data network that it prevents access to.

He's got a 16gb 3gs.

Many thanks

nope, wifi and cell data are different.
you can use wifi and have data roaming off.

if he cannot connecto a wifi network over there, it could be because of the security of that network. Does he have a username and password to enter the network? or just a code (WEP or WAP) ?

Hi thanks for the reply. No it's an open wifi network. I just wanted to make sure that the data roaming wasn't the cause.

Thanks again.
