I turned on tethering on the iPhone, and left the iPhone how it was. I turned on bluetooth on my Mac and paired it with my phone (via the menubar).

After it was paired, I clicked the menubar Bluetooth icon again, went down to my iPhone's name, and clicked 'Connect to Network'.

Voila

MMS + Tethering

Hey,
I have an iPhone 3G and i have manage to enable tethering and MMS. I don't have any problem to send MMS with my plan since i'm with Orange (France) and there are no restrictions.
But my problem is that in order to use MMS, you must configure the apn in the "Cellular Data Network" setting in Network preference on the iPhone to
"orange.acte"
But it disables my data plan and i can no longer use internet on my iPhone (except via wifi) because in order to use my data plan, the apn must be orange (without the ".acte")
It seems that this "Cellular Data Network" setting is for both MMS and data.
Does anyone knows if there is a way to set the MMS and data plan with two different settings ?
Does anyone who managed to enable MMS and tethering on ATT in the US had the same problem ?
Thanks...

Have you tried to create a third apn that contains the proper MMS apn data?

Working!!!

Just wanted to let everyone know I have MMS working now. I download the file from the 3rd page on this forum. I updated the carrier settings. I called att and told them that I am a developer and needed to get mms provisioned on my account. I called 2 times. The first lady had no clue so I just got off the phone and called again. The second person didn't know what i was talking about either but i asked her nicely if she could transfer me to level 2 support. She did, the lady on the phone was very helpful. I explained that I had the correct carrier settings on my phone but that I just needed att to let me get mms. She explained to me that they have to take off the block on each phone (not the entire plan, so she had to do both phone numbers) The block lets there system know that your phone is capable of getting mms. She said that they have to take off the part that send the link to the web site to view your pics and change it to wap/push. She even tried sending me test mms and was excited that she was going to get it to work. After about 10 min it did not work and I told her thank you for changing what need to be changed and got off the phone. I just about gave up at this point but after about an hour I just tried it again and it worked!!!

I think it's the luck of who you get. If you want it that bad just keep calling until you get lucky.

You know what? I will do that!

Thats a great idea!

EDIT - Just called AT&T 5 times. 2/5 times got transfered to the same person. The rest told me they could do anything. I needed to call Apple they told me. If anyone has any workaround please post! I need this for trip!

i called 800-331-0500. typed in my phone number that i was calling about. then listened to the prompts and hit 0 for an operator. told them that i had already called apple about the beta program. after explaining to the person that had no clue I told her that apple told me to ask for level 2 tech support. I was very nice about it and wasn't like your no help get me someone else.

So I downloaded the file from Page 3, option-clicked the update button, double clicked the file, and an update box poped up, flashed for like 4 seconds then went away... does that mean it updated it?

thanks.

You mean in the carrier.plist file ?? how many dictionnary should there be in the apn array ?? how many are there on the ATT carrier.plist file ?

2 by default for just MMS without tethering, but every carrier will be different about this.

ok what are the STEP BY STEP directions to changing everything../

do i need the SDK?

what do i need to tell att.. i have two friends that work at my local ATT

one is the manager other a salesmen so i know i can get my phones MMS working

thanks for all the info on this thread.

1. installed the mediafire file.

2. called 866-700-2105 and asked them to provision my iphone for MMS and i was on the 1500 text iphone plan and she switched it to the 1500 text non-iphone plan and provisioned my account and sent me a pic and i sent one back for a test.

3. worked perfectly and only took 10 minutes.

Reboot your phone then see if it still works?

I've seen the MMSC servers blocking iPhones SIMs after activated via iTunes. So this may be what is happening and only got it to unblock by using a different cell phone with the SIM a few times and waiting a while.

Since you are all developers working with the iPhone, you should be able to see the Console of your iPhone and see "forbidden" messages coming back from the MMSC.

I'm curious to know more. I called ATT three times, and twice they confirmed that both WAP/Push was set up, that there were no blocks on my phone for MMS, and that I should be good to go. I used the IPCC file linked from mediashare. I then shift+clicked (windows here at work), restored that IPCC file to the phone, restarted... nothing. I can pop the iphone sim into my blackberry and send and receive MMS just fine though. I'm starting to this there's a problem with that IPCC file.

As an aside, I've noticed under Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data -> that i I set my APN and a user and password. the APN is wap.cingular and my user/pass are blank. Is that the problem?
